Q. Who is actually the organization doing the hosting?
A. The Phrozen Keep is Planetdiablo's mod central which is part of the
global Gamespy network and as a result we handle all D2 mod-related
hosting requests on their behalf.
Q. What are the benefits of being hosted at the Phrozen Keep?
A. Planetdiablo offers virtually limitless file space and bandwidth, a
mysite.d2mods.com URL along with a @planetdiablo.com email account
available through POP3, webmail or mail forwarding.
Q. What criteria does my site need to meet in order to be hosted?
A. Each request is evaluated on an individual basis but there are a couple of rough guidelines you can follow. No glorified
readme files. This means that we don't accept single page sites which are just a quick feature list, credits and
a download link. Expand your site a little, maybe have one page for features, one for screenshots, one for
credits/links and then one for your downloads. Another quality we look for is visual appeal. Now this doesn't mean
your site has to be beautifully rendered in 3D, it just needs to be pleasing to the eye. In most cases, text only sites
may look a little too monotone but by inserting a little color and a few strategically placed images, it can make a
world of difference. This also goes both ways with excessive color and imagery making the site look cluttered if
not done properly which might hinder your hosting approval somewhat.
Q. How do I apply for hosting?
A. You can send a hosting request by email to Phrozen Heart. Be sure to include your name, a
return email address (if different from the one used) and the URL of your current website. If you don't have
your site online yet, just sign up for a free hosting account with sites such
Angelfire.com or Tripod.com and upload it their for us to see. We
regret we can no longer accept hosting requests in the form of offline versions of your site sent through
email due to the excessive demand it causes on our mail servers.
Q. My site needs a complete overhaul to bring it up to scratch. Can I get hosted first and then work on it after that?
A. Sorry but no, we need to see a completed site ready to go before
hosting can be approved. On numerous occasions, even the greatest plans
haven't always come to
fruition and as a result, the folder on the server just sits there
empty with no site to show for it.
Q. Can I run my own ad banners on my hosted site in addition to the network ones?
A. Non-network banners are not permitted. In order to continue providing their quality service Gamespy generates funding through
advertising revenue so displaying other banners would result in a conflict of interests.
Q. Can you host my Diablo 2 site even though it's not mod-related?
A. The Phrozen Keep only handles Planetdiablo's mod sites so any other hosting requests should be sent directly to
Planetdiablo's webmaster, The Acolyte.
Q. Can I run PHP/ASP/CGI scripts on a hosted site?
A. Planetdiablo offers database and script support for various languages. Please contact Phrozen Heart for more details.
Q. How come I haven't heard back from you regarding my hosting application?
A. Just because you haven't received a reply back that doesn't mean your application has been rejected. We will always give
you a definitive answer regarding hosting, it just may take a while to review your site due to our various other commitments.
If you haven't received a response within seven days, please resend your request stating that it is a second submission.
Q. What if I am rejected for hosting?
A. First, don't take it personally; we cannot host everyone. And
sometimes, it's Planet Diablo's rules that caused you to be rejected,
and not necessarily our rules. As for your next steps after rejection,
you could try to correct what is wrong with your site or wait until you
have more material or a more developed mod and apply again at an
appropriate time. Or, if you were rejected because your mod is still in
its early development stages or pre-public testing, you can consider
being hosted on our sister site, the 'PK Incubator.' Contact JBouley if you want more information about the PK Incubator site.
