A bit of a newbe question - what does "for LOD v1.10s" mean? 8-O Because my version of LoD is 1.09D - would it work with that?

Nope, it's designed for the current BETA patch that Blizzard has released, v1.10s ;)

But you can d/l the previous version of AR, it's v1.07 and it works just fine with D2:LOD v1.09d :D

Do you know any alternative downloads for v1.07 - because for some reason FilePlanet doesn't work on my pc... :?:

For ARv1.07 SE/CS ... if you do a google search, I'm sure you can find a few sites that carries it since it's quite long ago that I released it.

I won't be doin anything for LOD v1.09 anymore since I'm on LOD v1.10s now.

Edited: make sure the .zip you download are without installers or .exe files in there else you run the risk of virus, etc.

SE/CS? You mean there are two different versions? What's the difference?

AR-CS : Skills as per LOD
AR-SE : Skills modified from LOD (usually higher), stash also much bigger.
Greater details can be found in the readme.txt that comes with the mod.

I've noticed that mod doesn't really change the story - is it restriction of the engine or the author's decision? Are there any mods that change the story?

There are mods that change story. Its the author's decision to not change the story, not a restriction to the game engine ;)

There aren't any mods that change the story well, though. It's just some text changes, while you still have to do the same things getting the same results.

On Story ... I've never bothered about any story on any game ... since Pinball and Space Invaders ... it's the gameplay that matters to me. To me D2 to me is an action game that's very very addictive, thanx to the cool game engine. I seriously have no idea what the story is about except that I gotta kill Andy so that I can go to Act 2, then kill Duriel so that I can go to Act 3 and so on... just like any other action game with a Level Boss. I think that's why I still play it for a game already a few years old. For RPG Games that are story based, most prob I'll just play once or max twice, usually haflway thru the 2nd time, I'll get bored.... ie BG2,IWD...etc... think Fallout is the only 1 that I played 3/4 times due to the X-com like game engine. X-com,JA games I play over and over due to the gameplay. Since I'm not bothered about story, I just made AR the way that I'll play over and over again.

On Limitations to story change... Anyone can change the story to anything since the D2 with the availability of .tbl editors.

But the most things important days in terms of making D2 story change really different in terms of mod making are due gfx changes as follows.

1. The day .dcc replacements are possible.
2. The day .ds1,dt1 replacements are possible.
3. The day .dc6 replacements are possible.

All these are possible now thanks to all the tool makers.

I just wanna make sure those ppl who never credited tool makers see this.

These are the ppl who made it possible... the tool makers ... at least these are the ppl that made AR possible.

MPQ2k - Justin Olbrantz(Quantam), Andrey Lelikov,
MpqView - Simply Red Software,
DC6Con - Ryan Smith and Forest Hale
DC6Maker - Clannad,
D2Lvl - Isilweo,
Cv5/.dcc - TeLAMoN, Bilian Georgiev Belchev,
TblEdit - Darkstorm
And the current any mod tool maker -> Paul Siramy ... who probably can make any mod tool that any modder wants ... :)

In terms of .txt and mod makers ... everything is already laid out since day 1 so there's nothing much to shout about except for mod makers to think of ways to change data to make things different. Kinda like data entry ppl ... tedious low key job just to make things better or worse ... ;)

The biggest difference that Blizz made for mod makers is with v1.10, not only things are laid out but most all data is commented/descriptive for mod makers to know exactly how every index/key is referenced thru the various .txt to link/call up all the data.

Hopefully somebody will take the time to made a index/key reference for the .txt so life will be easier for new modders + modders who have no idea how referencing works. Tho It's not needed to make mods, it'll give an idea/overview of how the game was designed + better understanding of how errors(during modding and gameplay) can occur.

N00b question:

Everytime I try to run the MOD, when I select me char, I get:

Diablo II Error
-Assertion Failure
-Location : D2CMP\SRC\CelCmp.cpp, line #1521
-Expression : lpParent

Any ideas?

Sounds like you are either using LOD 1.10 with AR 1.08b and/or the first beta of LOD 1.10. You need LOD1.10s to play for now.

Erm... Cool that it is converted for 1.10s, but does it work with the final version? Cause quite frankly i don't feel like downgrading to beta patch :)

Not yet.

If you use mods often, you should make like 3 folders called 1.** (** being 09-10f) bak or something, and copy all dll's, exe's and the patch mpq into one for each version. (1.09, 1.10s, 1.10f) Then you can switch between versions in like 5 seconds by just copying everything from the folder you want into the D2 directory.
