As far as I know there are no recipes to create set/unique counterparts of base items. Quite right in my opinion, would pretty much obliterate the fun of going out and searching.

The problem somewhat arises from the text files still having the original names of base items in the note fields so I have to cross reference every single item with the string tables which blows

Without giving away too much details, the main abilities of the set are chance to cast blade shield, replenish life and extra gold and magic find.

Then there are the abilities of the shield of course, which are intended to keep you alive .

I'm not too keen on trading as I explained in another thread. In addition, I only have one of the shields and it is part of my collection. If I find another one I'll give it to you. It's not the most rare item, it's just not as common as the toys (which seem to drop at every opportunity).

I don't know. I believe that the base item is just a normal item (not exceptional or elite), so I assume that it can be found on nromal difficulty.
