If you read the announcement you will find they improving alot areas in the game and they have many more stuff not revealed yet that will come too.

* They overhauling the loot system and make loots alot more interesting. Make legendaries build changing, and make them feel very different compare to both diablo 1, 2 and vanilla D3.
* They improving end game and will make an end game for everyone.
* They adding "paladin" a class many missing from d2 with it's own twist.
* They adding stat customizing back from d2 with overhaul of paragon system. This is one of main complaints d3 have had since release.
* They pushing back AH as the main source of getting loot and instead drop->crafting->AH.

* They haven't talked much about pvp. Personally I find it hard make pvp good without sacrifice pve. Get one shotted it never fun in pvp so don't know how they would fix it without rebalance the complete game with pvp in their mind. I'm sure they come up with something's for pvp (maybe it's one of unannounced features they will talk about later)

Any more discussion on modding the game or is that still up in the air?

Is the expansion worth buying or is it just another rip off / scam like the original D3 was?

Diablo 3 was enough of a let down that I'm not going to buy the expansion unless I hear good things about it.

Trevor: you wont see modding for awhile, but in future I would guess not impossible as they made offline version for consoles.

If you liked diablo 3 initial, I think you will love the expansion. They are redoing alot of stuff that alot didn't like in the expansion. The more I see from the expansion, the better it looks. They had the latest from blizzcon recently and it just look amazing.

This is pretty much how I feel too - and not good things from some gaming firm that Blizzard gave a crap load of cash to either.

That's unfortunate because I would buy it if I could mod it on a PC.

I just tried to test it and failed at the server connection. It is stuck at retrieving hero list or times out at character creation and then sits there.
The same with Americas and Europe, I couldn't find any information on open ports needed etc.

This problem exists for two years now... wonder when they fix it :)

my guess is you have a firewall blocking it. You could try disable firewall and see if that removes the issue. If it do, add diablo as an exclusion to the firewall.

I never have any issues with connect.

Thank you. I just wanted to test before I buy, which I am thankful for. Just right now, I disabled any firewall and put up port forwarding on the BT router. This way I can logon, choose a character, click 'Start Game' and nothing happens.*

It is not my decision to use online authentication for an offline game. I never have problems with any other games, like several MMO. This also runs in wine, which provides another layer to cause problems.

* the only explanation to me, they connect and look into local games to make sure the software is used by their terms.

p.s. here is a list of bnet ports used: https://eu.battle.net/support/en/articl ... figuration

I see you running linux.

Why not make a win installation inside linux. Forgot the name of the tool to use it, as it was long time ago since I used it last. Then you can avoid all compability issues. As whine is sometimes not working as it should.

I am going to buy the expansion and hope for the best. This game just needs to do away with the real money auction house, add a structured PvP system, allow players to store games/character files on their own PC and play single player mode off line like the original Diablo series. I would also like a lot more customizable options like runes and charms.

How many people are planning to spend another 40$ on something that should have been included in the original game?

I bought it already the second after they opened up the pre-order. I got mine for free basically as I bought it for money I earned from real money auction house.

Anyone playing the closed beta for Reaper of Souls? If so, what's it like?

there is several streams you can watch too see how it is or try it out on ptr for "light" version of it. You get a chance to see the changes all who doesn't buy the expansion get (like class changes as example).

Well I re-installed D3 based on a post I made on the D3 forums seeing if it was worth playing again. A lot of positive feedback on 2.0.1. The patch doesn't address all the issues but the game is significantly more fun to play now. I've been playing it almost every night now for a week.

new patch is great, and that's without the core features in the expansion. I have had a great time since patch was released and played it everyday since then. only bad thing, is that it take out the time to play other games and mod :)

I think since the patch leading up to the expansion it has made d3 more playable for me. I am actually pouring time into it. It was worth the $40, really. Crusader class is interesting to play, it actually makes you think.
