Fury Gem Knowledge Base v1.02 (update 4)

Post by pmpch » Tue Mar 11, 2003 7:00 pm

FuRY GEM Knowledge Base v1.02

Basics
In general "Fury Gems" can be added to following items:
  • regular (except damaged/crude/superior ones)
  • socketed
  • magical
  • rare
Adding: Put the fGem and an item of choice into the cube, then transmute. The gem stat will be added to the item. Hovering a fGem will display which item types it can be added to. Due to a coding error there is an exception:
  • All not "Shield/Belt only" fGems work in gloves!
Update: Three fGems of the same type update to the next higher version.

MaxStats taken from List by JADE :)

Known Bugs
- Glendonite (Reduce Poison Length by 1%) doesn't work, afaik.
- Creedite adds +1 to Max. Damage instead of (+1% Damage) to almost all weapons. However, for some weapons they do work correctly, being the following...
  • 1h - Golden Flail (6 sockets possible)
  • 1/2h - Colossus Sword/Blade
  • 1/2h - Balrog Blade (4 sockets)
  • 2h - Leoric Branch
  • 2h - Padis Point (3 socket)
  • 2h - Delirious Pike (6 sockets)
  • 2h - Doomsday (6 sockets)
  • Bow - Doll Branch (6 sockets)

Additional Information

ADDING FGEMS OF THE SAME TYPE
You can add as many fgems of the same type as you like. Once the cap (see "MAX ADD" column in FGEM LIST) is reached the stats just don't add any further. For example, if you add 7 ametrines (+1 to all skills) to an item, adding another one will have no effect, it will stay at +7 to all skills, since that is the MAX possible amount for the +skill mod. Note, that mods an item was spawned with also count vs. this limit.
Items that can be socketed (jewels/runes/gems) on the other hand DO NOT. They add on top of the limit.
This allows, let's say, a 6 socket crystal sword to have +13 to all skills. +7 from the +skill mod (spawned and by ametrines) and another +6 from SKI runes, which give +1 to All Skills each.

ADDING DIFFERENT TYPES OF FGEMS
If you add fury gems, be sure not to add to many different types to a single item. More then 44 mods will corrupt the item. I believe 35 different types should be more then enough, alot of fury gems are really not worth being added.

TOTAL AMOUNT OF ATTRIBUTES/MODS (tnx Jade)
The game can handle a total of 260 attributes/mods on all equiped items (Armor, Amulet, Belt, Boots, Gloves, Helm, Shield, 2 Rings, Weapon = 10 items). A very good explanation is given here! I advise you to keep the total mods below 200, just to be on the safe side.

Some examples on how to reduce the number of mods:

- Put +20 Max Fire/Cold/Lightning/Poison Resistance either on the belt or shield, not on both.
- Some mods, including Ignore Target Defense, Cannot be Frozen, Prevent Monster Heal, only need to be on 1 item.
- Damage Reduced by %, Chance of Crushing Blow/Open Wounds/Deadly Strike +% maxed on one item is enough.

Trading Chart

Given here is nothing but an outline for possible trading values for Fury Gems (and some other items). I don't expect anyone to follow this of course, since each and all have their own opinion on usefulness and value. Without a doubt this chart is a good resource for beginners (good to know the value of a undead heart, before one gives it away for some mid class fgems, what he'll most likely regret later on.)

Re: Fgem Knowledge Base v1.02

In addition to the items that they say they will work in:

Raspberries work in gloves, rings and weapons.
All 4 stat gems work in gloves (Perhaps rings and weps too)
Onyx works in gloves and weapons.
Agate works in gloves.

Superior items do not accept fgems :(

Creedite is bugged, to a point, when being inserted into weapons. It sometimes gives "+1 maximum damage" instead of "1% Enhanced Damage". As we all know, 1% ED is much better than +1 max. It seems to *only* occur when being put into bows, I manually put 511 creedites into a golden flail and they all worked fine, I have also put many into gloves and rings, again no errors.

Spinel and Olivine can be found all over act2 normal, mainly in the sewers and Lost City/Far Oasis, and the beginning parts of act3, up to about Flayer Jungle.

Amber, Talc, Gypsum, and Calcite can all be found in act4 normal, start at the river waypoint and work *back* towards the town.

Peridot and Burma can be found in normal Drifter Cavern/Icy Cellar, as well as act2 in nightmare.

Everything from #32 to #51 can be found in nightmare elder/cows.

If anyone has any specific questions, post them here and I will do my best to answer.

I have added Creedites to serveral different weapons, including melee weapons, ethereal flails... always getting +1 MAX DAM instead of +1% ED
No idea how you could ever get it to work correctly.

What you mean by 4 stat gems? One that works on 4 item types or one that works on 4 groups?

I'm still working on the map, btw.
Tnx for the help.

I have an ethereal golden flail in softcore with over 1000% ed, i put 511 creedites into it manually, I can take a screenshot and post it if you like.

The only theory I have, and I know it sounds kinda weird, is that creedites will NOT work in a weapon that spawned with any ed%. That's the only thing that seems to match up, since my flail had 0% base, I have also seen versatile arches that weren't cruel that are over 1000% ed, which means that they also had to start from 0.

Also, he's right about the ambers. They work kinda weird, but once it gets to *X poison dmg over 10 seconds* it starts adding 1 for every gem.

Guide to show exactly how poison works (I don't want to go into detail here):

P.S. That is a beautiful chart for fgem locations ^^

I have seen "song mangler", a very nice toy!
Having done some single player testing I have come up with the conclusion that some elite melee weapons add up Creedites correctly, but only very few. This would explain Jade's 511% ED base golden flail.

Anyway, I still don't know, why some weapons work, while others don't. Maybe this was intended. All theories are welcome here.

Here some failures of adding creedites:
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2 (first socketed, then added creedite)
Screenshot 3

Edit: I should be able to add some successful ones soon.

well, because of these creedites, they work not just on elite normally, but they can work as they should on every Item - the enhanced damage attribute is kinda bugged - I tried a few editors in singleplayer d2 lod after I got bored playing it. And well sometimes I got maximum damage and sometimes I got enhanced damage, and I haven't seen an order or rule where you can see if it will be maximum damage or enhanced. Well, I suggest backup your hero, try it, and if it is not enhanced, use the backup :D

Just to tell you, every creedite I've ever used worked fine (and believe me - I used quite a few :D)

I'm still working on that, but generaly I recommend NM and HELL glacial trail, which is by far the best place for finding f27-f75 gems.

well, as for that you cant be sure pmpch!

for instance some of your screenshots of miscubed items (with max dam)
are showing base item who are working fine with creedites - in my case. Every creedite I've ever used worked correctly. Last one was put into a rare burning hand.

Ok, if you think you can get it to work, please tell us how and post a screenshot of your result. (Only 1.02 patch 1, tnx.)
Btw, I never said they don't work correctly in rings/gloves. Only weapons are effected, with a few exceptions.

@NeoGenocide:
Sure, no problem, I'll just make them blue, like you said.

We should make a value for each fgem, like a number value, that determines their worth in trading.

For example, lets say you are trying to max creedites on a weapon, and you find someone who has 10 of them to trade. How many ametrine/raspberry/demon heart etc etc etc are those 10 creedite worth?

I'll make up a mock list later for the individual values, but right now I have to go to work.

It's better to trade when both players involved are happy with it then to follow a list imho.

This is a great idea Jade, it's very difficult to implement though. How do you wanna determin the value of an Ametrine (+1 skill)?
They sure are worth alot to beginners. However, once your chars have reached the max amount of +1, they just start stacking on your mules, so essentialy they are worth little to nothing to you.

List was added, see above

Notes:
SUR Rune - for 5%/50+ mana charms / 2 for 1 BER
BER Rune - for 8% DR charms
JAH Rune - for 5%/50+ life charms (5% Life, +7x Life, +4x Mana)
CHAM Rune - 2 for 1 ZOD
ZOD Rune - 2 for 1 SKI
--------
Apatite - 2: More Def the better
Ore - 2: You need like 10-20% mana leech, and these gems drop fairly alot in NM Glacial.
Moonstone - 3: You'll most always have more "Min Dam" (Feldspar + Kunzite)
Glauberite - 4: Good vs LEB, but drop "en masse" in hell.
Goshenite - 5: Difficult to get alot of these (not in Glacial NM/Hell range)

EDIT:
Mushroom - for 200% gold charm
I think these are underestimated. I have around 18 of these charms right now. Together with my boots this is almost +4000% gold. 2-3 travincal runs = 3 million gold. The highest drop I've seen so far is 164k!

How can you set Marcasite and Raspberry so low?! Even lower then Alabster (+1 life) while Raspberry gives +1% max life.
Besides, I value Marcasite and Raspberry's way higher then ametrines at the momen (especially Marcasite) so a list is no good since everyone need different things and therefore value them different. So let's keep it as it is and trade when you are happy with it.

EDIT:
@pmpch: But still, 655% max life is way much more life then 1,4k alabster so why should alabster be more worth just because you need to socket so many?
And about the marcasite, with high %dr you dont need high life so then there is no need to get 1,4k alabster so Marcasite should be placed higher. But hey, that's only my opinion.
I also disagree with another value of some f.gems, it's the albite, it should almost be placed in the the top3 according to me since it will allow sorc's or necro's that dont have so much str/dex to use the good stuff (Sacred keep especially).

Of course the list could be usefull to, it will prevent players from "stealing" good f.gems from beginners who don't know their value. So make a list but don't follow it to 100% and force people to trade after it, let it be there so you can learn from it.

EDIT 2:
If anyone is up to it, you might want to write a bit why you valued the f.gems as you did too.

EDIT 3:
Ok, that's better :)

thanks for your effort to change the list colors :D
@uLiKo- if you have alabasters maxed on your equipment the max life from the rasberries will be much higher, so i think setting alabaster higher than rasberries is a good idea, but as they are the same lvl now it doesnt really need to be changed.
@pmpch- why are mushrooms so important, just for the low leveled players' necros?

I'll make a list of my own so we can compare.

I don't think anything should be 0, since it's possible that one day someone will want to max that fgem, although +AR vs undead isn't the most valuable mod, you never know....

Credit 1 :
Every fgem not listed elsewhere.

Credit 2:
Tanzanite, Zoisite, Amber, Talc, Gypsum, Calcite, Pearl, Spinel, Cuprite, Beryl, Moonstone, Bismuth, Rhyolite, Jasper, Azurite, Chalcopyrite, Kunzite

Credit 4:
Galena, Fulgerites, Kyanite, Borax, Citrine, Goshenite, Ore, Agate

Credit 5:
Feldspar

Credit 6:
Olivine, Morganite, Alabaster, Glauberite, Geode, Albite, Peridot, Burma, Barite, Labradorite

Credit 8:
Apophyllite, Apache, Anhydrite, Amazonite

Credit 12:
Raspberry, Marcasite, Onyx, Albite, Creedite, Jade

Credit 18:
Limonite

Credit 54:
Ametrine

I may have forgot a couple...

As for the other items:

Sur Rune, Ber Rune - 20
Mushroom - 20
Jah Rune - 40
Gold Key - 80
Demon Heart - 440
Undead Heart - 540

This keeps Ametrines/Gold keys in reach of newbies who have stacks of other fgems....

Comments welcome ^^

Well, nice idea you got there, and well I think I will add some of my own expieriences:

Most important to me are the ones with life%/mana%, then enhanced damage 1% + enhanced defense%, and then maybe everything else. I'm using pmpch's list to find them all, visitors of my homepage know what I've finished putting into my armor :D
