Skill System and Mouse Input
one of the revolutionary features of other MMORPGs out there are advanced input systems...
i was thinking perhaps we can also use em on d2 to make gameplay more enjoyable and new
so i was thinking, before activating a skill a player must meet the input requirements using a cursor pattern
just like what they are using on new MMORPGs being developed... (lineage eternal and blade and sword)
any how example:
Holding Alt = immobilizes your character
Hold Alt + "---------->" (Mouse Gesture) triggers an AOE full swing attack skill (on hold until) and released after you click your target
seems kinda cool... when holding the alt button, the mouse leaves a sparkling trail gfx (again just like in some new MMORPGs out there)

Re: Skill System and Mouse Input
There are certain things that I want and need to know.
Re: Skill System and Mouse Input
Wouldn't such system require so much code edition on D2 that building it from should be scratch would be easier?
Beyond that wouldn't d2 lack adequate animations?

theoretically this system would only require messing with d2's input handler, and expanding the skill-system by adding simple checks...
though at my current level of knowledge... this would still be nearly impossible...
however, i think senior mod-maker necrolis and kingpin could pull this off

Re: Skill System and Mouse Input
My way of playing D2 wouldnt allow this... My mouse normally is all over the freaking place! =D
But it sure is a new way of thinking.

Re: Skill System and Mouse Input
I think this concept is only viable with slow-paced combat systems (which is also not viable in my personal project... atm)
But would be cool to see this in action on d2 too .

I would be happy enough by having more mapped skills.
Changing walk to "wasd" wouldn't be comfortable given the sheer size of maps.

Re: Skill System and Mouse Input
to simulate a similar effect you can use autoit, or what you program in there (eg py). Below is a movie where dude is playing on the pad controller. You could calmly bind it to WSAD. if the final effect would be satisfying, you can think about modifying the game code to achieve a similar effect
