How to generate .bin files in linux?

Post by Fawahar » Fri Mar 30, 2018 10:01 am

Hello again, Keep!

The question that comes here is about Linux/Ubuntu/WineHQ

Currently I can run the necessary tools for general modding (D2 Excel and Mpq Editor) under WineHQ in Linux ubuntu 16.04, yet I must admit I have really no idea how to make Diablo 2 runs in -direct -txt mode, in order to generate all the necessary .bin files which needs to be packed in the Mpq file. My knowledge on the subject is far from advanced, so I would ask if someone can help with an advice how to complete this simple task. Maybe there are other ways that I am not aware of, to generate the .bin files without running D2 in -direct -txt... Please help.

I'm running it in a VM with Win XP. Much more convenient than Wine, since not all tools will work out of the box. Maybe this has changed with newer Wine versions, but I'm doing it this way since several years.

That is also an option, ggc. I just had bad experience with VirtualBox from few months ago. I ran Vista on it for a while, but suddenly got unexplained crashes happening, that honestly {filtered} me a off a bit. What VM you use?

virtualbox since it's easy to use and supports everything I need. Guest OS is XP since almost all the programs not running that good with wine runs on it and XP was the last Windows version I used.

Thank you for the reminder, ggc. I've just installed Win XP Sp3 on VirtualBox and it is working just fine. Hope it stays that way. Cheers!

Opening a terminal in the diablo 2 directory and running "wine game.exe -direct -txt" (without the quotes) works for me in Linux.
