treasureclassex.mpq and NoDrop=0

First of all...
I want to apologize because I'm positive that I'm not the first person to come here asking about this, but...
I have searched for this info here and can't seem to find it.
I'm trying to edit my Patch_D2.mpq so that I can take advantage of the nodrop=0 mod.
I have opened the archive in an MPQ editor and found the treasureclassex.txt. I have edited the txt file so that every entry in the NoDrop column reads "0." I have tested my edits using the data folder and -direct -txt method. And my edits are working. But when I try to close the Patch_d2.mpq and place my edited version in my Diablo II directory, my drops are vanilla. My edits are no longer working. I can only seem to get it to work with the data folder. If I try to use my edited Patch_D2.mpq, it's as if the game isn't reading my edits from the mpq. When I reopen my modded mpq, my edits are there. Can anyone explain what I might be doing wrong? Thank you for any help!
