Unexpected result from rerolling magic and rare items

Post by strafano » Tue Sep 01, 2020 2:24 pm

Hello,
I was testing the reroll of magic and rare katar assassin weapon and I noticed that if the pristine item does not contain any +skill (e.g. +1 light sentry) on it, then the rerolled item will NEVER have any +skill as well.

Conversely, if the pristine item has +skill on it , it will have a chance to get one or more +skill on it.

Does it work as intended or did I make some mistakes?

Regards

Hello

In ItemTypes.txt you look for the ItemType 'Hand to Hand' which has the code 'h2h'. in this line you go to the column 'Staffmods' and enter 'ass' as value, since there is nothing there by default (which also the case for the paladin shields, 3 lines below). By changing this, you will see that the assassin weapons will have a high chance (almost every time) to spawn with a +skill stat, even when you reroll them.

I think this should fix your problem.

Thanks for the reply!
I try to explain better my observation: if I buy from a merchant a claw not having +skill stat, it will never get +skill stat after reroll.
Conversely, if I buy from a merchant a claw having +skill stat, it will have a chance to get +skill stat after reroll.

It seems like there is a hidden constraint in the item generation.......

Devangell is right, h2h does not have staffmods. Where you are probably confused is that not all assassin weapons have the same itemtype. Some are h2h and some are h2h2; h2h does not have staffmods, h2h2 does have staffmods. If you want to make all assassin katars generate staffmods, then change all the h2h instances to h2h2.

OOOOK, now it's clearer! I diidn't know that h2h weapons do not have staffmods. I never stop discovering new things on D2 :)
