A Nice suprise for everyone :)

Post by Nefarius » Fri Jun 13, 2003 1:17 pm

I decided to work on adding the next char for XyRAX after all,
which would, due to all the requests be the sorc, however one word of warning, because I no longer know which files I updated before I dropped the updates last time, you will need to re-download the entire mod again (sry)

I think ill be done by next weekend, or even sooner. but maybe also later, all has to do how much work ill have next week

Great ! :)
that really helps to get more balance on the closed xyrax-server. The actualy "unmodded" sorc is to strong there atm

here are the plans:

Dark Magic
Fire Bolt - Abyssal Projection (small trap like explosive, doing physical+magic damage)
Warmth - Warmth (as is) (altered stats)
Inferno - Hadic Rage (a inferno like spell of black energy doing physical damage)
Blaze - Blaze (as is) (altered stats)
Fire Ball - Mind Decay (a curse that lowers the walking speed of monsters)
Fire Wall - Fire Wall (as is) (altered stats)
Enchant - Hail of Darkness (unstopable missile that releases damaging fog while it moves and when it explodes)
Meteor - Apocalyptic Spirits (generally it stays similar, new gfx and new effects on impact)
Fire Mastery - As Is (may be removed later on!)
Hydra - Unholy Descendant (changed gfx, release other missiles)

Weather Spells
Charged Bolt - Nebulouse Specters (physical + magic damage, works similar to CB, however it pierces and explodes on impact)
Static Field - As Is (altered stats)
Telekinesis - Fixed, works like it did BEFORE blizzard messed it up beyond believe
Nova - Fog Nova (the shaman skill, but weaker!)
Lightning - Thunder Caller (it looks the same, however it will release minor shockwaves wherever it travels until it hits a wall)
Chain Lightning - Lethal Voltage (works similar to original CL, but much more effective, no cast-bug and moves faster, less bolts)
Teleport - Lightning Vortex (a Lightning Tornado, knocks enemies back)
Thunder Storm - Thunder Storm (as is, but altered stats)
Energy Shield - Energy Shield (as is, altered stats)
Lightning Mastery - As Is (the spells on this tab have very high mana cost)

Toxic Spells
Ice Bolt - Hatred (missile doing minor poison damage)
Frozen Armor - Toxic Ornament (like the normal armor, but different gfx and venom bolts)
Frost Nova - Toxic Nova (a skill similar to the poison nova released by bosses) (izzy will use this skill as well!)
Ice Blast - Bringer of Anguish (a missile that releases poison on hit)
Shiver Armor - Venomous Hide (see others)
Glacial Spike - Pestilant Weever (summons a toxic elemental doing massiv poison damage on impact)
Blizzard - Acid Rain (the blizzard spikes release acid (like that of the acid beasts) on the ground, very deadly!
Chilling Armor - Acid Skin (see others)
Frozen Orb - Chemical Apocalypse (a physical missile releasing tons of toxic piles, at impact it does physical damage and releases poison)
Cold Mastery - 2 poss (1. -> change the res reduction to poison) (2. replace the skill with something else, see below)

* Toxic Geyser - like the druids volcano, just releasing venom clouds

*Be aware that the mod is still built for SP, the server cannot use the xyrax DLLS so the skill changes on the server are only graphical and minor txt related stuff. :-|

I think I read somewhere that Nefarious is gonna have teleport be a book/scroll only skill.

I'm just wondering, would the making of most of those skills be possible with just editing skills.txt?

no, at the moment all of these skill changes requires modifications in d2client and d2game.dll.

While you can change the way a skill looks via txt files or change the values the skill will use (dmg per level etc), it is impossible to change the actual functionality of the skill via txt-only editing.

Even the simple change I did above requires some code editing, aka sounds, movement behaviour, impact function, casting overlays/sounds etc.

In 1.10 most of this stuff will gte softcoded, so in the future it should be possible

So in other words, Blizzard likes modders.

MMM for the Toxic stuff, I've tried athe very same approach with my Chaos class. Without soemthing that can reduce monster pois res, it's almost unplayable. What I've done is editing the lower res curse to affect poison res only and doing a stray substract so immune are no longer.

For your Acid rain, nice idea, mine works exactly the same :P

I usually include small amounts of physical damage on each elemental skill if its based on poison to give the skills some "first impact" damage, however it requires minor changes to the HitShift value to work correctly. (a note, hitshift 8 is NOT recomended for any poison related attack, it will be similar to a 1hit kill skill)

Nothing wrong with a one hit kill :)

But, I'd say if you were to do that, make sure it's got a highly detrimental effect to the caster, as well...as in...uses 2000 hp, 2000 mana, and drops them down by...5 levels.
