Evolution Tournament Series - Chapter Three!

EVOLUTION SERIES – CHAPTER THREE!

This is the 3rd in a series of mini-tournaments which will increase in difficulty as your character “evolves” and will eventually become a major as scores will be carried forward to each subsequent chapter!

RULES

Please read the entire ruleset carefully before beginning. You are responsible for knowing all rules. It’s straightforward, but infractions may result in points deductions or disqualification. Any use of 3rd party map-revealing software, h@cks, editors and use of the -Act switch is not allowed.

Character. Continue with your registered character from previous chapters. New players may enter the tournament but must create a new character, any you choose is fine apart from a Paladin “summoner” but must be SC only. Register before beginning and always use the Current Zy-El Patch.

NB: New players entering, in order that they are not too disadvantaged by having no carry forward score, can use a CF score of <lowest CF score of existing players> / 2. Alternatively you may play “catch-up” with no penalty by playing all of Chapters One and Two before starting this one but must adhere to their rules. This should give new entrants a bit of a chance.

Multiplay. No multiplay allowed. This is a single player tournament only.

Skill/Stat reallocation is NOT allowed.

Skill Restrictions. No skill restrictions apart from Paladins who are not allowed to summon in any shape or form and no matter the source of the summons (CtC, Charges etc). The “Conversion” skill is allowed as it is not technically a summoning skill.

Rerunning. Rerunning areas is fine. As your character and the tournament both evolve so shall the rules and we will make a ruling on returning to previous difficulties when we get to that stage. That means at least 2 Chapters before that happens.

Shared Stash. New entrants must start with a new empty stash (both shared and personal). You can dump any items into Shared/Personal Stash pages. You will need to and want to do so in order to “evolve”. See below. Existing players continue with their stashes from previous chapters.

Equipment. Chapter Three sees your accumulated knowledge and experience reap real benefits and takes place in Act 3 Normal mode. At the beginning of this Act you can use white items which will include runewords but any runewords you make must be <= your character level. Whether you actually use them is up to you but you must be able to equip all runewords that you make. No making an “Oath of <char>” before you are level 255 for example. You may also use items with “magical” properties (i.e. blue items), rare items (yellow) and newly discovered crafted items (orange). As in previous chapters, any other items may be stored for future use but you can NOT equip them. This restriction stays in place until you find the Gibdin and Lam Esen’s Tome, at which point you discover the secrets of Major Charms of Making (Major CHoMs). On killing the Council in Travincal you figure out how to use Mega Charms of Making (Mega CHoMs). You may now equip these in addition to minor & album posters, white, blue rare and crafted items.

Note on Crafted Items: You are allowed all forms of crafted items i.e. own crafts, Trinity Demon recipes but Megaloading is NOT allowed.

Mercs. No restrictions on hiring and firing. The same item restrictions apply to mercs as to your character at all times.

Recipes. Any recipes that use items that are not in the equipment list must not be used to modify gear you find, gamble or are using (see the exception for downgrading immediately below).

Downgrading. Downgrade recipes can be used to make an item that this chapter allows the use of. Any other downgraded items must be stored in your stash.

Death. All deaths count and will incur a 0.005% reduction in your Evolution Modifier (EM).

SCORING

CFT: Carried forward total. This is the total score carried forward from Chapter Two.

CRF: 1st crafted item equipped = 500 pts. (You must be using it to score).

MAJ: 1st Major CHoM quipped = 1500 pts. (Must be equipped after finding the Gibdin and Lam Esen’s Tome but before advancing to Act 4. You must be using it to score. Any made after this can be used but do not score).

Meg: 1st Mega CHoM made = 3000 pts. (Must be made after killing the Council but before advancing to Act 4 and can only be a Mega CHoM. Any Mega CHoMs made after this can be used but do not score. Whether you use Mega CHoMs or not is up to you).

AC: Act Completion results in an award of 5000 pts.

EM: Each death in Act 3 will result in a 0.005% penalty.

TOTAL: Total points = CFT +CRF + MAJ + MEG + AC * EM

NB: A Perfect Score will allow you to add 0.005% to your Evolution Modifier for Chapter 4.

Chapter 3 Optional Side Quest– “Mephisto’s Treasure Hunt”

There has been another "Alignment of The Trillion Cubes" causing disruption and chaos to your universe....read on.

AIM

Collect as many Treasure Cards as you can in 1 run of all 3 levels of the Durance of Hate. Treasure Cards collected before this do not count, so please store them on a different stash page.

RULES

(1) The cosmic imbalance caused by the "Alignment of The Trillion Cubes" has this time fallen on the side of “Law” and means you have been transported to Act 3 on a different Plane of existence. In this Plane, you have 1 run to do a full clear of the Durance of Hate (All 3 levels).

(2) Death does not count. “Law” is on your side.

(3) Players X setting of your choice.

(4) Collect as many Treasure Cards as you can find. Other drops may be collected but do not score.

(5) Equipment from Chapter 1 to 3 inclusive is allowed.

(6) Restrictions. You must already have killed Mephisto before attempting this quest and are not allowed to progress to Act 4 and come back to do this. If you go to Act 4 before attempting this, then you can not do this side-quest.

SCORING

(1) Players X factor:

8 - add .001 to your EM
16 - add .002 to your EM
32 - add .003 to your EM
64 - add .004 to your EM
127 - add .005 to your EM

(2) Levels gained factor:

Multiply your levels gained by .0001 and add this total to your EM.

(3) Treasure Cards:

Each 2 of a Kind = 50pts
Each 2 Pairs = 100pts
Each 3 of a Kind = 250 pts
Each 4 of a Kind = 500 pts
Each Full House = 1000 pts
Each 5 of a Kind = 1500 pts
Each 6 of a Kind = 2000 pts
Each 7 of a Kind = 5000 pts

N.B. Any combination of suits for the above is allowed. Having matching pairs, 2 of a Kind or Unique 3s and 4s etc., don't give any better score. To factor this in would have made the scoring too complex.

Completing this side quest also gives you access to Treasure Cards for Act 4. If you don't complete this quest you can not use Treasure Cards in Act 4.

One scoreboard, coming up.

I have a few crafted charms I made on the fly (one of them has Dire Wolf charges so I am carrying that). They are gonna be used to make the CHOMs for this act. For Khalim's, I got the eye and I am at Lower Kurast WP. I accomplished all the progress in A3 on Players16.

I'll upload screenshots once i have more items to show. For now i have 4 crafted rings with static field (2 for me and 2 for merc) and a crafted belt.

Also i have a problem with the High council like in this thread.

That post looks like it was made 3 years ago, with an older version of Zy-el where that bug was probably around.

I have beaten Council for the quest plenty of times and ran into no trouble.

The issue probably was one of the 3 Council Member uniques didn't spawn properly and their 3 deaths are required to beat the quest.

That is a fairly well known issue and still exists unfortunately. As long as you have cleared the area where they should spawn i.e. middle and both sides, then consider the quest done. It's not part of any scoring component so you don't have to re-do it.

[EDIT] As for Mega CHoM's, they stay as a scoring component. The alternative I was going to use would have been much harder to obtain i.e. Major Posters and if you approach Act 3 in the right way, you shouldn't have a problem making at least 1 Major CHoM and 1 Mega CHoM.

Somehow i did the council quest at 3rd attempt. So the problem is solved.
Mega chom... No complaints here... I'll have to go for 30k collector points somehow. See no other way to obtain uni charm required to make the chom. Other parts aren't that hard to get.

Major poster 8-O How would you do that in Act3??? Countless major fragments from 10k collectors and maybe some demon boxes if you are lucky enough to find one with major fragment?

You can find recipes to craft the unique charms on the pages 23-24th of mod guide.

Or the fortune will smile you and you'll find minor to major demon box.

BTW: ChoM has unique charm class. In any case anyone can use it in the recipes to make uni ring, amu and jwl:

1 Uni Jewel - Get these from Rare to Fruit Seed scrolls
1 Uni Charm - 30k in Collectors + Food Item + Hex Charm
3 Yellow Scrolls - 6 Blue Scrolls + Rare Charm each
3 Perfect Skulls - 9 Normal Skulls each
Done.

I got about 15+ Minor Choms so far so I can easily make 5 Major Choms.

As for the Mega CHOM, I got everything but the ability to make them according to the rules and the scrolls (which I got enough blues to easily make a series of Secret ones).

The cheaper way would be:
Yellow Scrolls - 4 Blue Scrolls + Rare Charm + Elixir
Perfect Skulls - 4 Normal Skulls + 3 Elixir
(2 skulls + elixir -> flawless and 2 flawless + elixir -> perfect)

I went through Act III on P1 as fast as I could and then went to making the required items for the act. I had Charsi imbue a colossus girdle that I made for my first crafted item. I added life on level to it. Next I made my Mega Chom which went pretty smoothly since I had the ingredients I needed to make it (or so I thought). I missed that to make a unique charm, all of the input crafted charms have to be the same size. So I ended up needing to make one more small crafted charm before I could finish my Mega Chom. My next plan is to make some crafted boots with teleport charges on them to make my meph runs for zy runes a bit easier.

@Al-T: I don't know if this can be answered or not, but are there going to be any side quests that require a merc? I just ditched mine after act I since she wasn't of use anymore.

Mercs are optional. Use them if you want but there will be no side-quests that require them. I was going to make a "merc only" side-quest for this Chapter but after consulting with a few other players it was agreed it would have taken too long and wouldn't have been much fun.

For summoners mercs are a godsend, even in the Insanity levels but not much help for melee characters and even ranged (bowazons, javazons, rangers, trapsins, sorcs) characters will struggle to keep their mercs alive in there without some meat shields. I am going to try and keep my merc as long as I can and hopefully that will include the Insanity levels but I suspect she may fail miserably once I get to Wayside of Woe etc. This is just my personal choice. On the plus side for not using a merc, you can spend all your resources on your main character and cut down the amount of farming you need to do. So it's up to each individual whether they use a merc or not.

Hehe... yeah 1 thing - where will you put your major Chom in your already crowded inventory :lol: You need to use it you know...

As for my weapons: both are divine scepters(exeptional) + etheral + Flagbearer RW... and 713% ED from mace mastery passive :cool:

And a question to about the side quest:

Is 5000 the max score we can get? Or do we get 5000 for each 7 cards of the same tier (7 of a kind)? Would we get 10000 if we got 7x 2s and 7x 3s. Would it be 10500 is there were 7x 2s and 7x 3s and 4x 4s? Do we need 3 jokers if we want to complete "4 of a kind"?

It is unlikely (although I could be wrong as I haven't tried it myself) anyone will get enough to make 7 x 2s and 7 x 3s and 4 x 4s but you are allowed to use the combination of cards you acquire to give you the highest score possible, so it is advisable to go for the 5, 6, 7 of a kind first and use the remainder for whatever extra points you can gain.

Remember it is only the cards that drop during your Durance run (all 3 levels) that can be used. Any existing TCs can not be used for this.

No jokers are required for "fillers". A 4 of a kind or a 3 of a kind is exactly that, just the 4 or 3 cards (any suit) etc.

[EDIT] Hellwolf_36.....Montex makes a good point. You must equip your Major CHoM for it to score and none of your screenshots show that. As one of your screenshots shows you in Travincal, I have to assume you have infringed the rules, albeit accidentally and I may have to impose a points deduction. I'll consult with Hans and give you an answer later.

During a mock run on P8 i got 13x 2s, 7x 3s and 1x 4s. So those numbers are quite realitic.
Still having some trouble with P127 in Durance3. Staying alive isn't a problem at lvl 270 with 1 oath and 1 word RW (63k HP). But killing speed is really slow... Once I solve that I'll go for the side quest for real.
Btw, Some mobs hit for 3-4k even with 50% damage reduction on P127... Upgrade your belts before going :lol:

First, when doing the sidequest can you use cube recipes to downgrade/upgrade tcards or use jokers to make a tcard 2?

Second, does that mean you need to have both a Major CHoM and Mega CHoM in your inventory to score, or can you have the Major CHoM in your inventory and then take it out to make your Mega CHoM?

First, when doing the sidequest can you use cube recipes to downgrade/upgrade tcards or use jokers to make a tcard 2?
You can use the recipes but ONLY with cards that drop in the Durance.
Second, does that mean you need to have both a Major CHoM and Mega CHoM in your inventory to score, or can you have the Major CHoM in your inventory and then take it out to make your Mega CHoM?
You must equip the Major CHoM at all times in Act 3 after making it for it to score. So you will have to make another 3 to make your Mega CHoM. You don't need to equip the Mega CHoM, you just need to make it for it to score.

So then I guess technically I can't complete the MAJ challenge since I've already used my 1st Major CHoM to make my Mega.
Or can I just make another one and use that? (I know the rules say I can't, but I'm just checking)
