Re: [Character] Barbarian
Nice to see the rest of the threads, so I'll seek and destroy the skills I think destroyed the barbarian builds leaving the cookie cutter.kingpin";p="182709" wrote:Even that we will not implement Barbarian in the preview version we will start take ideas. Totally useless, never used, even on Hardcore, it was only a prereqskill, it also had the same fuction as the useless Grim totem.Warcries:
Howl
useful 1 point wonder on Hardcore, sadly the find item also get you potions and invest more points grants nothing at all.Find Potion
Useful skills, except battle cry, find item usually got up to lvl 6 on barbarian MF builds since far lvl 10 the gains is not that great.Shout
Taunt
Battle Cry
Find Item
Battle Orders
War Cry
Absolutly crap, a waste of a nice graphic, but I heard some people used it, once...Grim Ward
It is only a +1 lvl to battle orders + shout, never got more than 1 point in it, its useful... but I consider it a waste of skill space =/Battle Command
All masteries are the same, I suggest to make 1-hand polearms so we can see more polearm barbs using the shield variant.Combat Masteries:
Sword Mastery
Axe Mastery
Mace Mastery
Polearm Mastery
Throwing Mastery
Spear Mastery
Increased stamina is totally crap, increased speed is good, my suggestion is merge both skills or remove the increase stamina.Increased Stamina
Increased Speed
Useful, most people prefer shout to iron skin, but there is a Barb build using iron skin + shout + concentration to tank a lot.Iron Skin
Broken skill here! 4-5 points investiment usually and the barbs will reach 75% resist to all but hey, its a barb.Natural Resistance
My suggestion for this tree is to make skills for tree barb main builds and leave the throwing barb on another skill tree.Combat Skills:
The main builds are: Two-handed weapons barb builds, the Double weapon master, and the Shield & Sword type (shield + weapon)
Not usefull at all, but at least grants +max damage, my suggestion is make it grant +max damage to the skills that get bonuses from this one or remove it.Bash
I like this skill, sadly Frenzy its better on all aspects.Double Swing
Totally useless skill since "Leap attack" is available and 1 pont on it is unlimited range, my suggestion is remove "leap attack" (with the frogger build) or leap.Leap
Best skill for thrower barbs.Double Throw
Crap skill only prereq, nobody used it because there was no damage enhancer.Stun
this is the cause nobody uses Leap.Leap Attack
These are good skills, sadly berserk is a skill that made all barbarians able to kill any monster on the game investing only one point in it, making redundant all elemental weaponry =/Concentrate
Frenzy
Berserk
Now here we come, the uber skill on the barbarian tree, the problem with this skill is that is the best melee skill on all the game, only gives headaches to modmakers.Whirlwind
The Whirlwind skill makes people NOT choose any other melee skill except berserk, and I said this from my own experience, no matter how good the other skills look, people will get whirlwind and use it over the rest.
it also makes PvP get infested with WW barbs (except maybe a thrower) wearing a sword & shield.
those are my opinions about the skills for barbarian.

Re: [Character] Barbarian
allllllllllllllllllll righty then!!!
Time for my uubar suggestions!
Leap: Remove this, replace it with leap attack.
Leap Attack: bump it down to leap, Replace it with another leap attack type skill but this skill will be diffrent. This skill causes a explosion damage simalure to assassons dragon tail. Then have it get added fire damage bounus from berserk and natural resistance. And added physical from Leap attack.
Whirlwind: Nice skill... Overused tho, How about changing the skill's damage structure completely.... It gives NO bounus damage, but gives higher AR, and adds in % for Crushing Blow and Critical hit. Each skill points increases AR, and the % for Crush and Critical.
BerserK: Reduce the magic damage boost it gets, let it be a slower build up till higher levels where it would take big leaps in dmg.
Frenzy: I would perfer to use this skill on a dual using barb but my biggest issue with this skill is its extreemly short duration.. How about adding in another synergy bounus that adds time to the frenzy? Cap it out at 12 seconds instead of 6.
Natural Resistance: Nerf the ammount of resists you get instead of big jumps for the first few skills start it off lower. Start it off at 10% for the first skill then increases by 3 for awhile then goes to 2.
Add in a passive synergy bounus with Iron skin, have it reduce magic damage.
Iron skin: Keep basicly the same.... Add in a passive synergy bounus to reduce physical damage. *not by %*. The skills that add the bounus are natural resistance and shout.
Increase Stamana: Combine with increase speed....
New Skill, Advanced Weapon Mastery: Increase some weapon mastery bounuses
Shout: Still a good skill.
Battle Orders: still good.
Battle Command: Still good.
Battle Cry: VERY good skill for dual wielding barbs that cant kill monsters really fast and gets surrounded. Just use this when surrounded and your survival gets a nice boost.
WarCry: I never found this skill very useful... How about Reducing the damage Greatly and increases the Stun length.
GrimWard: Useless remove it plz thnx, or have it do something else, like cause small area and small damage corps explosions. *30-60% life*

That's maybe because you don't tested different things with your barb, probably.
this skill is great for stun enemies to avoid get hit (except if you are using a cookie cutter barb with WW)
it was the most famous combo the Berserk Barbarians use, and its also the main weapon for the "singer" barbarian build, that had lots of Fast cast rate with mana boost so they can sing all day long until a enemy drops.

Idea for Leap Attack: (Not sure if already mentioned), The place where you land should set off some sort of stun. Maybe call it "Tremmors" or something where the ground shakes stunning the nearby enemies.

and for Nevbo
The singing barb is not a new idea, there should be at least one guide on the diabloii.net forums.
Basically used:
Rings & ammy: two Stone of Jordan and Castercrafted Amulet
Armor: Skins of the Viper Magi (or Stealth runeword)
Weapons: Dual wield two wyzard spike (not remember the sockets, but probably +mana or mana regen or +3 to warcries weapon)
Head: Most barbarians used cheap 3 socket helmet with Perfect Sapphire for +mana.
Belt: one with good +mana (I think its also caster craft)
and for charms, mostly +1 to warcries skilltab and +mana.
informative note: the barbarian has the same FCR table as the sorceress, using the same breakpoints, but most singers barbs I think suggested 75, because 125% was a lot for his mana pool.
then use warcry and grant battle orders to all, its mostly a support build, but is fun as hell

Re: [Character] Barbarian
It's obvious that certain skills were switched between characters during game development. Grim Ward doesn't even fit the Barb, it fits the legends of the Amazons. Amazons summoning Valkyries???
Try switching them, so that they make sense. However if you do, change the Valks anim to something that actually looks like a valkyrie:
-Javelins and shield
-Winged head-gear (similar to Barb helms) Maybe have the wings from that helm, growing out of her head.
-Scantily clad. Not the bulky looking thing, that they have now.
Here's an idea of a new skill, call it Thor's Blessing, sort of a call lightning warcry.
Well, this would be the best start...

How about in the Combat masterys tree barbarians can get a enchantment of weapon type of spells.
Can only have 1 of these up at a time.
Volcanic Weapon: Enchants a weapon with fire damage, gives 5% chance to cast Volcano, and 15% chance to cast fireball. While also giving some solid fire damage to the weapons. Not much tho sence the key use of this spell is the volcano and fireball.
Arctic Enchantment: Enchants a weapon with ice damage, gives 5% chance to cast a Frozen meteor.. Basicly this meteor creates a blue ring on the ground instead of orange/red the meteor will be blue if you can do that, and when it exploads it causes a area ice explosion. Also has 15% chance to cast Glacial spike.
Odins Son: Gives weapon lightning damage, 5% chance to cast chain lightning *this chain lightning has a high lower damage instead of like 1-1000 its more like 700-1000 or something*, and a 15% chance to cast Nova.
Thor's Teachings: Only works if you have a mace/hammer class weapon. Instead of a direct attack it throws a magical type hammer at the enemy that does 4/5 of the damage of your weapon, plus lightning damage, and stuns.
Thor's Might: Same thing as the skill above but instead turns your weapons damage all into lightning with added magic damage, When it strikes it basicly does a lightning fury type of split. Only works with mace/hammers too.
Eye of Odin: Self only buff skill, Increases AR, Deadly strike, Crushing blow, and attack speed.
Berserk: Good skill modify it abit, it drops your defense and stuff but still has high damage cuz it converts all your attack to magic. Well it should also return abit of damage
Not alot to kill you but enough to keep you from going nuts with it. Kinda like sacrafice but abit smaller. Like 3-5%.

I kinda agree on this one, but then the Barb will have a summon (like i want all classes shall have) and the Amazon will lose the Valkyrie summon. Maybe add a totally new summon to the amazon like a jungle animal of some sort (maybe a big snake?)
So im trying to say whatever you do, make it so that both Barbarian and Amazon have atleast 1 summon

Re: [Character] Barbarian
Grim Ward - make it an aura, lowers monster AR, increases monster cast delay, and gives you %chance to casue terror o striking...basicly makeing the monster scared, makeing them hit less and casters take long to concentrate, and maby even depending on lvl of the monster..the runnin fear completely...like all monster under 10 lvls of you strike out in fear as soon as they touch the aura radius
WW - make WW cause stun on the player...after spinnign so fast..they should eb dizy, and have to sit for a second or two
turn find potion into a cannibal type thing, the player eats the corpse and gains life/mana
remove all the leap skills completely..and add leap to the 4th skill tab
maby a ksill that lowers the rate at which itmes loose there durability?...and maby even makeing item indestructable?, sence a barb is a melee type char, he should know alot about blacksmithing etc...
well, this is it for now...boop oop a doop!

Re: [Character] Barbarian
It's fun to post suggestions in these threads, Considering how many skill slots there are to play with. I think pretty much all has been said that needs to be said about existing Barb skills.
An alternative Grim Ward could be one that attracts instead of scares away. So all the monsters within range attack the totem while you pick them off one at a time.
I'd like to see the shamanistic side of the Barbarian explored, such as with skills that consume monster organs for bonuses, summon spirit guide perhaps, things like that. Some other ideas might be "warcries" that tradeoff bonuses, like reducing fire resistance to add fire damage, or reducing max hp for lifeleech.
It's hard to come up with a variety of melee skills that are interesting an different and you've got lots of slots to fill. One possibility could be to devote entire columns to individual weapon types, which is likely, I guess, as you already do that for the Pally bolt and grenade skills.
Some melee skill ideas I had are:
Wallop - releases a non-damaging nova that knocks enemies back.
Pummel - 3-swing Zeal with very slow attack speed (-75% AIS maybe) and high damage.
Pulverize - melee releases a shockwave (a la vanilla Druid werebear skill) that does % of weapon damage.
Spirit Warrior - Summons a phantom duplicate of the caster that runs to the target, hits once and vanishes. Deals weapon damage.
I always wanted to make skill for the Barb that would Charge attack multiple targets in a row but I couldn't do it.
That's the best I got right now.

Re: [Character] Barbarian
Barbarian is the next character to implement and we are getting closer to start the work on this. So, keep post ideas for this class
this summon you talk about, ive seen and used a very effective one, i believe its called 'summon ancient'. the barbarian calls an ancient to his aid which acts like the valkyre for the amazon.
for other skills, well... the only thing id like to see is lvl maxd out to 99 but thats just silly isnt it ..

Re: [Character] Barbarian
Have an idea about turn Barbarian into a non mana user class and use rage instead of mana. Rage will be used to pay cost of several abilities. Now, to the question would people be interested of play a class like this?
This is the class we will focus on after preview version is released and planning for the class have started.

Re: [Character] Barbarian
i think it's a pretty good idea, because its really weird that barbarian use mana any way it dosen't fit him....
it's more natural that he uses rage
it's more natural that he uses rage
Re: [Character] Barbarian
Completely agree Barbarian use mana is weird. The hidden character in Diablo 1: Hellfire - Barbarian Class was really interesting since it was restricted on mana use.
There is issue to solve before barbarian would turn out as a playable class.
In what way should Barbarian be able to gain Rage, should Rage "regen" over time or should it do the opposite way. Reduce rage over time if you don't use your rage up?
Also, should Barbarian be able to use any kind of magic items or should it have it's own items?
For sure there should be a "Rage Potion" to gain quick rage. In same way as players can fill up their mana.

I dont know if it is possible with the D2 engine or not, but in guild wars, barbs gain their version of rage through attacks. After their "rage" gets to a certain point, they can use other skills that require rage, the higher the rage, the better the skill.

Re: [Character] Barbarian
well i think that rage should regen when killling enemies or something like that and have a slow reduce when not using rage in a period of time.
and something like guild wars.
you can only use high skills when u have a "big" amount of rage
whether the max rage should increase per lvl or in other ways I dont know. I'll think it over and see if i can come up with a good idea
hope this is of use to u

Don't worry about the actual implementation. That's not an issue if not D2 support it. I add it in that case.
Want a mekanik for barbarian related to Rage that is playable, and fun.
So, start suggest skills that use rage

A first preview of Barbarian Class
I'm currently designing the Barbarian skills. The barbarian will use a rage system. Skills will cost X rage to use. I wont go into exactly how it work right now. He will completely lack mana and can't use magical abilities.
I'm currently working on design the combat skill tree.
The three subtrees is currently focus around sword, axe and polearm.
Preview skill:
Sword of Disciples
You are trained to know how to strike an enemy.
Requires a one or two handed sword to use.
Level req: none.
Rage Cost: none.
Effect:
Gain X Rage per kill.
Increase chance to critical strike
+%attack rating
+%increase damage
Barbarian will get both new skills and have some of the favorites left (Berserk, Whirlwind, Frenzy, Leap Attack).
Currently the Level 30 skills is planned to require sword, axe and polearm to use. The biggest issue right now is if this will limit barbarian to much.
In Current design Leap Attack is the L30 skill for sword subtree.
Berserk is the L30 skill for axe subtree.
Whirlwind is the L30 skill for polearm tree.
Would this be to limited? a possibility would be allow the L30 skills to use sword, axe or polearm each of them.

Re: [Character] Barbarian
If i understand correctly what you want to implement are skills that are only usable with certain weapons??
I don't think it would be a good idea. Mainly because some people like the way axes or swords look, and who really uses pole-arms?
Pole-arms are slow and ugly (i find them ugly). Having whirlwind restricted to pole-arms would make many players not even use the skill.
Maybe having whirlwind restricted to two-handed weapons would be a better option.
Great Mod
