How to make your own screens in alot of areas.

Post by mo44 » Sun Apr 23, 2006 9:04 pm

Hello I made this tuturial because of two reassons:
1. Nothing better to do,
2. Couple of my freinds want to make there own screens
3 now that I thought of it,
3. No need to hold and lock my knowlage away

Making you own screens by Mohammad(mo44)

Needed:
MPQ reader/extartor
DC6 creator
all of these can be found in the keep's file center

Step 1:
Step one is to find and extract the need dc6 files,
so open you MPQviewer and/or extractor, open d2data.mpq, now filter it to .dc6s, then extart the following underlined files, then open up d2exp.mpq and extract all of the blue files.

A. data\global\UI\Charselect\characterselectscreenexp.dc6
B. data\global\UI\FrontEnd
1. gameselectscreenexp.dc6
2. tcpipscreen.dc6
3. trademarkscreenexp.dc6
C. data\global\UI\Loading\loadingscreen.dc6
D. data\global\UI\PANEL
1. 800ctrlpnl7.dc6
2. ctrlpnl7.dc6

Ok file explanation, characterselectscrenexp.dc6 is the character slecting backround picture in expansion , gameselectscreenexp.dc6 is selecting how to play single,b.net,other, backround in expansion. tcpipscreen.dc6 in other-> tcp/ip game background. Trademarkscreenexp.dc6 is the picture that you see before you can select game mode. loadingcscreen.dc6 is the frames that you see when you loading to enter your game. 800ctrlpml7.dc6 and ctrlpml7.dc6 are you helath/mana "bubbles"

Step 2: For screens through A and B do this,

Sub-Step 1: Finding the image,
I would use images.google.com or if you good at photoshop make it yourself it saves time :)

Sub-Step 2: Resize!
The image must be 800x600 if the file is to big shrink it if its to small,
then don't make it bigger this ussauly make it look weird, if it is to small
make a black backround and if it has its own background you can use
Photoshop then select erase then select one that look like it fades away
from the middle and go around the image with that.
Sub-Step 3: DC6 Creator
In DC6 creator hit new -> import -> chose file
then it will ask if it can split them into frames hit yes then put them into
the approte places and walla!

Step 3: For screens through C and D do this,

Note: these are animated screens there fore we can not use images
bigger then what DC6 creator will allow,

Sub-Step 1:
Open DC6 creator and open the orignal DC6 you extracted from
d2data.mpq and d2exp.mpq now click export all

Sub-Step 2:
Edit the images to your likings then save them over the DC6 creators
extracted images if there is a more frames then you want you can delete
the picture if there isn't enough you can add a Image.

Sub-Step 3: DC6ing it back
Open up DC6 editor and find the INI file that was stored with you images
then come back to DC6 creator and hit INI to DC6 choose the correct INI
file and then save your DC6.

A short and simple guide. For your formatting (if you're interested in doing any more guides) try using colours to highlight stuff. i.e. all files could be Red, columns Blue, etc. :)

Are there any other than these : If that's all, then this guide, after clarifications (sorry, I think we can do better) might have a place in the tutorial section (but that's only my own opinion).

The ones that are currently not on the keep will re added as part of the retro-project, they vanished at some point.

Don't res old topics, rather start a new one. Those tutorials aren't downloads, they are just web pages, so you can just save them in the browser
