random immunities

Post by Char » Fri Aug 01, 2003 1:31 am

i got a new thing to work. its random immunities on monsters.

when a monster is spawned, it has a certain chance to get an immunity assigned. this is true for all monsters, the chance for this to happen increases with the monster level. this is even true for bosses. there is another (smaller) chance that the monster even gets two random immunities assigned, which also increases with the level.

so when you find a group of enemies, not all of them have the same resistances. some of them might be immune to physical while others are not.

if you meet a monster that is naturally immune to cold, you might be unlucky and find one that is (through chances) immune to fire and lightning as well (which makes your sorceress get serious problems). if you are very unlucky, immunities on bosses might even stack up to four different immunities. but this case is very rare.

this is a long-planned feature that i had nearly implemented in 1.09 via code editing, and now i have a softcoded solution for 1.10 :). i already have it on my website, exactly here. the chances have changed a little bit, but you get a general overview about the chances there.

i have made screenshots of four different quill rats that all have different immunities, you can see them here:
quillrat1
quillrat2
quillrat3
quillrat4

ah, and another funny thing (which will NOT be in the mod of course):
allmighty quillrat

so, what do you think about it?

well that's a really slick feature, changes the game quite a bit! and you wouldn't be able to build your character to be good against any one monster/boss.
and you should leave the "Almighty Quillrat" in, that would present one hell of a challenge

It wouldn't jill others things if it had -95%to attack rating And give the rats a verylow armor class...
They could have 1 hps... And the burn damage = 1....
Either way... Does burn damage give in 1.10?

avenger?
if a sorc meets such an enemy (that will happen from time to time), what is a hireling for? another option is: run away.

Avenger: you know the skill with fire ice and lighningdam ( l. 18 skill ) and the conviction aura?
But your arguments are okay. We will know more when the beta is running and we can test ist.

avenger is vengeance, must have been messed up in the translation. Anyway, vengeance/conviction paladins wont have a problem, that what zeal is for ;)
