Keep Update 12/07/2007

Post by Myhrginoc » Sat Dec 08, 2007 5:05 am

Sixty-six years ago today, the "Day that shall live in Infamy" woke a sleeping giant and changed the course of history. Much has happened since: some inspiring, some appalling and some beyond even the wildest imagination of the many who struggled and lived through that world-wide convulsion. Enemies have become friends, and new enemies have been created. The technologies that were driven urgently by the exigencies of war have grown to the mirrored potentials of great promise and ultimate doom. While we sit at our machines and enjoy modmaking or playing our favorite games, pause and reflect what we might have been doing now if that event had not galvanized a complacent nation.

The Keep is no stranger to controversy, much as we might prefer otherwise. A long-standing disagreement boiled over. After considerable discussion the Keep admins agreed the Mods By Laz Forum would no longer be supported. Brother Laz has formed a new board to feature Median 2008 and other projects. The Mods By Laz Forum here will be locked down in a little over two weeks. We will not remove the forum, as there is much information of interest to Median players, but no new posts will be possible after lockdown.

Fire When Ready
GuyAskingQuestion released two updates to his Ragnarok mod for D2 v1.11b this week, proving that one good turn deserves another. Loosely based on the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, this mod is still in a preliminary stage. Get the main file and patch 4, then let Guy know what works and what doesn't at his forum.

In the Bomb Sight
Nefarius continues to develop tools and tricks for v1.11b to equal the code knowledge and plugins developed for v1.10. His latest effort is a library of functions to load, extract data from and unload regular and custom data tables. Find out how you can put this tool to use in this thread.

On the Radar Screen
This week's screenshot by Kato features a sneak peek at a work in progress: the next version of the Zy-El Mod. Not everything has to be serious, but who would imagine going up against the Prime Evils with...a pack of cards?

"I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." Aren't there some poor dumb monsters waiting for you out there?

Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.
