There are currently 2 MacOS X tools which can be used for modding:
MPQ2K for Macintosh: http://daniel.chiaramello.free.fr/mpqtool/mpq2k.app.sit (unfortunately, that project is no more supported...)
Diablo II MPQ Tool (unsupported Classic version too!) : http://daniel.chiaramello.free.fr/mpqtool/
A (very verbose) page describing the Macintosh modding state-of-the-art can be found at http://daniel.chiaramello.free.fr/mpqtool/macd2mod.html
2 other tools can be found on http://www.macstorm.org (MPQDraft and DropMPQ): if you know these products and how they could serve the modding community, don't hesitate to tell me - I never used them!
Welcome to the keep!

Re: Macintosh existing tools
The following modding tools are now available for the Mac:
Enquettar Mac, which converts .tbl files into text files and vice-versa.
MacDC6, which allows you to view, edit, and create DC6 files.
D2 -direct -txt Patcher, which will create a patched version of Diablo II 1.10b that will run from a data folder and create .bin files from the text files there.

Re: Macintosh existing tools
Heiho,
after some tedious reinstallings and availability/update checks it seems that souricette's original home page doesn't exist anymore.
It is however mirrored at
http://daniel.chiaramello.free.fr/mpqtool/
Can't say how long or if it's verified in any way by souricette.
Also, the download section at macstorm is, uh, down 'for maintenance', don't know if this is permanent.
