Ladder runewords in SP problems

Post by maxigoth » Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:08 am

At the weekend I spent a lot of time trying to get the ladder runewords to work in single player on my Mac. I am playing 1.11b. I was using version 1.1 of Sourciette's MPQ tool.

I followed the instructions, using a runes.txt file that I found posted for windows. I also tried by modifying the file myself (removing the 1s from the server column), always with the same result.

After I generated the bin files, I pressed the button to fix them. No dialogue box came up to say that the action was completed sucessfuly, but looking at the modified date on the runes.bin file, the time had changed.

I loaded the runes.bin file back in and started an existing character. When I first opened the character, the Ancient's Pledge shield showed the correct attributes, but the name had changed to "ith". Second time I opened it the shield was gone.

Trying to make a ladder only runeword (insight) didn't work.

What is going wrong?

Thanks for any help in advance.

OK I have figured this out for myself. What I did was as follows for anyone else who may need to know:

- Download Diablo II MPQ Tool version 1.1 from http://mpqtool.coucou.net
- Download runes.txt from http://wreckernl.homestead.com/files/di ... ewords.zip
- Download 1.10 patch from http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/Mac/

I assume you are running 1.11 Carbon version. First copy the entire installation directory and rename if to "Diablo 110" or something.

Sourciette's mod tool does not work properly with 1.11. Patch the copied directory back to 1.10. Follow the included instructions to remove the runes.txt from the patch file replace it with the downloaded runes.txt file. Follow the instructions to generate the bin files and replace them in the same file.

You them have two options:
Play 1.10 with FE and Marrowwalk bugs.
Swap save files to the 1.10 directory to make the runewords and back to the 1.11 directory for playing. They will not poof.

Disclaimer
Back up save files first. I have only just got this working so don't blame me if it goes wrong, but this is how I did it and it worked for me. I haven't extensively playtested it yet.
