Most wanted added features and tools for the Mac?

Post by Contrail » Wed Oct 24, 2007 5:29 pm

Hello all,

I'd like to know what tools for mod making and added features for the game itself you would want to see the most on the Mac. I'm not guaranteeing that I will have the desire or ability to make everything that's suggested, but I want to get a sense for what Mac D2 modders and modplayers are interested in having available to them, to help guide my decisions on what to work on.

In the Eastern Sun mod PC players can spawn Diablo Clone by selling Devil's Food. Would you have any idea how to implement this for Mac players?

As far as I know, the two factors that would need to be changed are enabling the event to happen in non-realm games and changing the trigger to be Devil's Food instead of Stones of Jordan. Looking at how it's implemented for the PC version should give me a starting point at least.

I am surprised nobody mentioned the infinite stash. PlugY has been the most popular plugin by far, but Yohann never ported it to the Mac. It is too bad he is not available these days, or he might pass on how he did it to somebody who really can work the Mac code. (I believe Eastern Sun uses the World Event feature from PlugY to enable the DiabloClone.)

Perhaps he will stop by and read about your work!

Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

I am also surprised that nobody mentioned the d2mod or nefarious system to manage plugins. I do not know if it is possible to create.

PlugY would be great for mac users. I believe most mods that use the world event use PlugY since it is easy to get it working.

If that could happen for Mac players that would open up so many doors for tournament possibilities. I've always wanted to do a 7 character Septavariate at ES where sharing of all items is allowed, but Mac users would need something like PlugY.

The infinite and sharable stash is definitely high on my priority list, and PlugY's feature list is something I'm going to be looking at for ideas for what to try to add to the Mac version in the way of features.

An actual plug-in system is unlikely because of some technical complications caused by Diablo II having started life as a Mac OS 9 application. I'm planning on making my additions have configurable options through text files, with it defaulting to the game's original behavior if they're not there, which I think will be more useful overall.

Skill and Stat Reassignment would be great. If it can't be done in game, an app that would reset all would work just fine. Alkor is the only app that works with mods, and the current version doesn't seem to work at all.

Is there any way to increase the character file size limit?

I'm actually in the preliminary stages of figuring out how to add Skill and Stat Reassignment to the Mac version, since that will be a bit easier than adding the multipage shared stash.

From what I've read in discussions about that topic for the Windows version, it would be possible but difficult to increase the character file size limit, but there's some further problems regarding packet sizes that are more likely to occur if the character file size limit is raised.
