do the mana potions work? my necro gulps but mana doesnt go up?but love the mod so far

no, thats what the rest skill is for (its given to every char for free, just look near unsummon).
Mana potions shouldn't even drop but in that version there hardcoded to drop from some golden chests. Best just to use them to get some extra cash for now.
