[Storm Rust] LoD 1.09b Release

Hello Keep'rs!

Storm Rust is the name of the Diablo II LoD Mod I've scrambled for myself and other LoD Fans (as you) with the help of the Phrozen Keep Community.

The main goal of the Mod Storm Rust is to retain the original LoD Gameplay, yet to push you towards mastering the class you choose to play, focusing on tactics, momentum, concentration, immersion and leaving you but a little space to breathe, so you don't fall into click-click-got-bored situations. To reach that goal I had to completely change several main aspect of the game such as:

-Increased Difficulty
-Item Lore/Affix Lore (completely)
-Runes/Runewords/Crafting (completely)

There are other numerous minor changes, such as:
-Shops (partially)
-Gamble (partially)
-Hirelings (partially)

...and more

I hope I would be able to drive you out of your skin with this mod and let you experience genuine Diablo inspiration, while playing.


INSTALL:
-get yourself running Diablo II LoD
-run patch from here
-replace the native Patch_d2.mpq in the Game Directory with this one
-get few zombies down and see if you like it

For the folks around who are using D2SE, here is the mod files suited for the program. Extract/paste to MODS folder as usual and have fun!

There is no synergy in the skill trees, but the requirements for learning a skill are vanilla-like, if that's what you ask.

- For beter Immersion, MINI MAP/AUTOMAP has been disabled
- Major game-play change (removed item slots)
- UI Enhance
- Rebalanced drop rates (lowered)
- Reworked Uniques and Set items to fit new game-play

STORM RUST v3.1e

Change-log:
-Charms totally removed from the mod.
-Immersion(ethereal) crafting finally incorporated as Paladin craft.
-General changes in the Talisman and Flayer bone ju-ju item types.
-Sorceress enchanting now works on all types of circlets.
-Druid now enchants instead of talismans, Flayer bone ju-ju.
-Cow King now does not always drop uniques.
-Introduced new skill dynamics and balances.

make monsters/bosses stronger does not make the game harder, my opinion is remove TP from game, add some red tp instead

I can agree that the new environment is still easily beatable by a skilled player, even on higher players difficulty, however, I must point as well, that the idea of Storm Rust is to "bring back" the average player to the game. This fact, by itself, drives me to keep some reasonable and modifiable challenge levels ingame.

Currently I have no plans of changing the town-portal structure, this is especially due to the fact, that it will break the multi-player heavily. Having automap turned off makes it already enough demanding.

Meanwhile I am preparing the so anticipated Expansion of the Mod. Currently the project is moving along the lines of modern-type of Mod, so there comes the brand new name for it - QUEST!

In QUEST the player will be invited to lay on the past of the great STORM RUST, however explore much bigger deviation from original LoD game-play. What I say!? Unique Items, Drop, Skill and Crafting systems are just the basic of the new Expansion!

Make sure you check the BETA which I carefully prepared for you, act1 is fully playable and I am waiting to see how you will react on this.

Looks interesting!
I haven't seen any mods that actually disable mini map.

How complete is the mod? Can I finish the game or is it limited to act 1 only?

The map's invisibility is a WIP since 1 month, actually. It crashes the game, currently, but it works for the intended purpose, until I find a solution to make it work better, you'll have a "lesson in violence" each time pressing that map key. Of course, if the binding for the map key is removed from controls menu, this ends all problems whatsoever. This is quite a question on topic actually, believe me or not, but five minutes ago I was just pondering if I should keep the "no map" feature for QUEST, or not...

The Beta that I just released is for "chewing purposes". It is meant for the player to make a new char and go around in act 1 to feel the difference from before. Drops are disabled after act 1. However, any of the previous version of the Mod are absolutely complete and as much as balanced as I could fix them. They differ a bit in play-style and features, but the core is the same. Some of that core is planned to remain for QUEST, but we'll see how much, indeed...

The text is blank, currently, since I am switching from the old UI which had the the text removed. It's going to some polish work at the end of the release. I am still deciding whether to make brand new UI or just keep vanilla style.

even though I have no idea whatsoever of what to expect from your mod, I decided to reinstall D2 on my new PC and give it a try - I hope I can provide decent feedback asap and real life won't curb my progress.
