Two Updates - Ultimate Fixer vol. 5. 3.2 and AntiBalance 2.4

Post by Nefarius » Wed Aug 02, 2006 5:08 am

Anti-Balance 2.4

This version doesn't alter too much, I did some more tweaks to the AI (that isn't noticeable really), what it is mainly meant to is fixing the Shenk Bug, which caused the game to crash when you killed him and didn't finish the quest yet.

Ultimate Fixer Vol. 5 version 3.2

This contains a bunch of new features and other changes.

Fixed the shenk bug (like above for Anti-Balance)
Whirlwind works like it did in 1.03 now, not like it worked in 1.00-1.02.
Damage Reduction and Magic Damage Reduction again properly nullify damage from various attacks.
Swapped rarety of sets/rares again.
Fixed the levels of charged skills on magic and rares.
Some affixes have the same values they had in 1.00-1.06.
Did some tweaks to gambling.
Rare items will now almost always spawn with 6 modifiers.
Final tweaks to affix frequency.
Adjusted unit stats and resistance penalty.

quick question for ya:

was about to install UF for the first time(3.1), then noticed the 3.2 update and read about the Whirlwind change.

Was 1.00-1.02 too overpowered for the mod and 1.03 is less powerful? I forget what patch it got nerfed.

That is the main thing that made me want to install the mod, like a trip down uber-memory lane :)

Thanks for the mod and your time!

EDIT: Just found a whirlwind history, i guess 1.03 lessened damage but it still ignores weapon speed. This i can live with. :)

WW got nerfed more then once ;)

1.00 = had positive damage at lvl 1 (IIRC) and it hit 2 times for each attack, as well as ignoring weapon speed.

1.02 = changed startinf damage to negative

1.03 = changed amount of hits to 1 hit per hit (<- its like this now in UF), which is how WW was for the most time. 2-hits per hit made it a bit too godly, paired with critical-hit "bug" ;)

1.07 = here they decided to ruin WW and make it influenced by weapon speed.

Please edit your post instead of double posting.

I checked this and seams I left a test-file in the mod, I'll fix this when I get time to work on this again.

Just started trying AntiBalance. Regarding the Zod rune recipes - exactly how common are high end runes after your adjustments?

For a party starting from scratch, untwinked, how long would you say it would take to acquire a good stock of the ingredients necessary?

One week or so, unes drop often if you play in players 8, and you can also use the cube to make the runes via the upgrade recipes (the same as vanilla).

Great, looking forward to seeing a Zod for once.

With the "add 1-4 sockets" recipes, will that add to existing sockets or only unsocketed items?

Another poster had this same issue - normal and superior items don't seem to drop, even with 0% Magic Find. What sort of ratios should we be expecting from itemratio.txt?

Perhaps a "downgrade quality" recipe would be useful.

..

It will only work on unsocketed items.

Normal and superior items are extremely rare - they do drop though. (superior items are rarer then rares), basic normal ones only drop when all other checks fail.

Are you sure you have 9 eyes in the cube? Because I can't seam to find some other cause when looking at the files.

After some further AntiBalance testing (and awaiting Nefarius' return), here are a few observations and questions:

- Yes, normal and superior items do drop. The first one I saw was in Act III Normal, Lower Kurast.

- Blood Mages' animation seems to be glitched - they will disappear during certain actions/after taking damage.

- The Skeletons summoned by Horadric Mummies in Act V are infinite and don't drop any items. Same goes for Chaos Hordes summoned by Blood Mages. Neither of the summoned units give experience. :( Meanwhile, Vile Spawns and Maggot Young give both.

- Don't stand next to the clones summoned by Baal if they are fire enchanted. :!:

Questions:
  • The "?????" items say "Keep in inventory to gain bonus" - what is the bonus?

Are there any skills not available from Magic Boxes?

When monsters spawn with a random immunity, what % resistance do they get? (i.e. is it breakable?)

Are there any in-game hints for the unlisted cube recipes?

**Would you be willing to release a more melee-friendly version? One with no Iron Maiden, no shieldless blocking, etc.**
If it's of any use, I filled out the rune names of the cube recipes, and tried to summarize the class-specific results:

Code: Select all

When monsters spawn with a random immunity, what % resistance do they get? (i.e. is it breakable?)
All random immunites are breakable, if not Nef have changed that :)

Yes, normal and superior items do drop. The first one I saw was in Act III Normal, Lower Kurast.
Would you be willing to release a more melee-friendly version? One with no Iron Maiden, no shieldless blocking, etc.**
I might release a more 'balanced' version of AntiBalance in the future ;) --- where nightmare and normal are hard but not perpetual torment. Hell will be a different story though.
Blood Mages' animation seems to be glitched - they will disappear during certain actions/after taking damage.
Thanks, I converted all these anims in a hurry --- I'll replace them all with remakes in a future version.

The Skeletons summoned by Horadric Mummies in Act V are infinite and don't drop any items. Same goes for Chaos Hordes summoned by Blood Mages. Neither of the summoned units give experience. icon_sad.gif Meanwhile, Vile Spawns and Maggot Young give both.
Yes it's infinite. But no summoned or revived monster in D2 gives experience, the vilechilds and maggotlarvae that give EXP are those that are spawned with the unit initially.

Don't stand next to the clones summoned by Baal if they are fire enchanted. icon_exclaim.gif
That's Mr. Blizzard for you  I didn't fix any of these hardcoded bugs in this mod to keep it compatible with macs.

The "?????" items say "Keep in inventory to gain bonus" - what is the bonus?
They are used in a special cube recipe to gain power.

????? + perfect gem + ZoD = special spell box of the gems color (your char class must match the spell boxes color). This spell box can add a bonus to up to 5 skills at once.

Are there any skills not available from Magic Boxes?
All those skills that can't be used by all characters without causing glitches or crashing the game.

When monsters spawn with a random immunity, what % resistance do they get? (i.e. is it breakable?)
The bonus is between 75-100%, you can break it. You can even remove the immunity, you only need to freeze (not cold damage, freeze target) the monster.

Are there any in-game hints for the unlisted cube recipes?
Rare Sacred Armor + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Body Armor
Rare Spired Helm + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Helmet
Rare Colossus Girdle + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Belt
Rare Myrmidon Greaves + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Boots
Rare Ogre Gauntlets + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Gloves
Rare Aegis + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Shield
Rare Hydra Bow + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Bow
Rare Cryptic Sword + Rune 33 + 3 Brains = Hacker Sword

;)

These are some, but what exactly they do you'll have to figure out on your own when making them.

If it's of any use, I filled out the rune names of the cube recipes, and tried to summarize the class-specific results
Yea, that will be useful for people reading this topic I think.

Thanks for the replies. Some further thoughts after more testing:
The Skeletons summoned by Horadric Mummies in Act V are infinite and don't drop any items. Same goes for Chaos Hordes summoned by Blood Mages. Neither of the summoned units give experience. icon_sad.gif Meanwhile, Vile Spawns and Maggot Young give both.
Yes it's infinite. But no summoned or revived monster in D2 gives experience, the vilechilds and maggotlarvae that give EXP are those that are spawned with the unit initially.

The reason I mentioned those monsters not dropping any items was that I saw this in the mod notes:

"4.) Fixed a bug that caused maggot young to drop no items."

Wasn't sure if it was the same problem with the Skeletons and Chaos Hordes.

Once more on the topic of Superior/Normal items ;) , I ran into a problem with the "Normal Item + 3 quills + Perfect Skull -> add 1-4 sockets" recipe. Namely, it didn't work with Superior armor or weapons.

I'm not sure if it was intended this way (as with the Blizzard socketing recipes), but if so it would make the unsocketed enhanced Superior items all but useless - they could only ever get the maximum socket count for the item (thus preventing many runewords from being made), since Larzuk would be the only way to punch holes in them.

One side effect of removing low-quality items is that it prevents use of the El/Eld upgrade recipes, which set ilvl=1, and thus allow lower amounts of sockets in those items (for the 1-25, 26-40, 41+ ilvl breakpoints).

Since the mod enables the Lawbringer runeword, and the fixed .txt files were used as a base, I was wondering if you might consider fixing the Sanctuary aura bug in the mod. This thread lists the .txt fix for it:

I'm gonna do a major revision of most of the mod. Quite obviously I made this all in a hurry ;) --- Since the rest of the dev team on my actual project are busy with RL at the moment, I might take the time to release a bit more thought-throughout version of AB. Don't know if this will require a full re-write, but thats for the future to tell.

I see why that recipe didn't work though, looking at the new files, the recipe itself changed. It's disabled :P

I'll fix this in the next version

If it's any use, I think the group I've been trying this with would be happy with just a few minor changes and bug fixes.

-magic item -> normal/low quality "downgrade" recipe, like the "remove ethereal" one

-no Iron Maiden/ no monster shieldless blocking (to make melee a bit more fun)

Overall, the challenge/reward balance seems just about right for the group, with just a bit of concern about the Blood Mage/infinite Chaos Horde/no drops combo.

Open Wounds + Conviction (the highest sLvl possible) to crack his immunities. Then pretty much hit him with everything you've got.

Code: Select all

mLvl 110

Skills:
Beachball (sLvl 35)
Summon Uber Duriel ([acronym="Skill Level"]slvl[/acronym] 1)
Bone Spirit (sLvl 50)
Blizzard (sLvl 50)
Meteor (sLvl 50)
Holy Freeze ([acronym="Skill Level"]slvl[/acronym] 20)
Fade ([acronym="Skill Level"]slvl[/acronym] 25)
Cyclone Armor ([acronym="Skill Level"]slvl[/acronym] 25)
Inner Sight ([acronym="Skill Level"]slvl[/acronym] 20)
Iron Maiden ([acronym="Skill Level"]slvl[/acronym] 20)

Drain Resistance 33%
Cannot be frozen
Cannot be cursed
145% all resistances (inc. physical and magic)
No life regen
75% chance to block

Life approx 1.4 million (without boss boni)
Defense approx 30k (60k if stone skinned)
Experience approx 17 million (without boss boni)

Extra fast, Teleport and Multishot built in boss modifiers
These are the stats so you get a picture of what your up against.

It requires a load of mana to be enabled IIRC.
In vanilla you need to kill the cow king to be unable to go to the farm again (or be in a game were someone else is killing him).

Hey

Just wondering if there is going to be another release of the UF mod in the near future with the gambling issue fixed.

Cheers
