Real Multiple Homing Missiles + Other Effects

Post by Nefarius » Sat Dec 08, 2007 9:36 pm

While this probably would've best went in the screenshot thread or the skills thread, there is so much going on in the first of these that description would be out of context there.

First Image

In the screenshot above four things are visible (or for the illiterate 4).

If you look at the character, you can spot that the amazon's stuck in a very weird motion set. This is the retaliation ability literrally kicking in (the lightning overlay on Eldritch is the result of getting kicked --- lightning dmg on the boots ;)).

Of course the very visible thing is the arc of missiles, these missiles all get a random color (chosen when they get created by their GUID and hcIdx).

The two different overlays on the siegebeast (poison and electric) will give a hint as to what damage these missiles do, namely random ;) (missiles with random damage aren't possible in vanilla because the rand type is only properly coded for monster melee attacks).

And ofc, these missiles are all real homeing missiles, (aka not Chain Lightning clones that are bugged as hell). Each of them picks the foe closest to it as it's target after 15 frames have elapsed and then home onto it until they expire or hit the target. If there is no target, they will keep traveling in a streight line (but keep attempting to pick a target as they do, unlike vanilla ones [to some extent])

And the second image hereshows a better shot of their homing behavior (and a winged skeleton, which is a whole different story because these things are going to be a major pain to fight ;))

I certainly wouldn't want to get caught on the business end of that "chromatic orb attack" (let alone provoke an attack of opportunity from that Amazon!) I once tried implementing something similar in the totally derelict engine of vanilla d2, but to no avail simply because of all the broken stuff in the d2 engine Nefarius mentioned in the "build log" thread. :x

This is by far the sexiest mod I've ever seen. 8-O
No beating heart I felt. I brought no sights to the silver lips; no warmth from the gold.

Wouldn't the homing missiles be a bit overpowered? How easy are they to get? Are they on mods on equipment or skills?

They would be, in a D2 context, the spell system is so radically different in "MetalStorm" that this isn't an issue (not to mentioned, monsters can and will use as good as any spell available to the players too).

Now all those monsters will get their "sweet" revenge for all the abuse the've suffered at the hands of the D2 players (especially on BattleNet)! :firedevil:
