[BTH]New prefixes/suffixes ideas?
I'm making player's life harder by making new "evil" modifiers for the items. Here's what I have right now:
- to fire resistance
- to cold resistance
- to poison resistance
- to lightning resistance
- to all reisitance
- to minimum damage
- to defense
- to attack speed
- to life
- to mana
Please give me some more ideas, but be careful - your characters will suffer after that

This would be a killer...-all skills. I miss negatives in D2, no risk in identifying an item like in D1.

Well, you got most sept for -stats[vit,str,dex,eng]. Is it possible to get the on strike to work against you? Say, cast amp damage on self. I thought this was possible, but I can't remember how.

One question bothers me:
If I get a + 5 fire res prefix and - 5 fire res suffix, will it say "+fire resist 0%" or will it say nothing? Yesterday while testing I got a similar item (with these prefixes and suffixes) and the result was "+ fire resist 1%" But what if the values of the prefix and the suffix are the same?

How about prefixes that add ot level requirements? That would be very evil. You could have +to level requirement (based on Experience) that that it always goes up.

Wow! If that's possible (and I'm sure it is), I will make it. Nice idea
EDIT: Just thought about it... Imagine a character fighting his way and meeting an extra strong fanatiscism moon lord boss with his minions. He kills one minion and level-ups. But the armor he's wearing has this prefix and he doesn't meet the new strenght requirement. The armor is still there, but the player don't receive the bonuses. And now he's left without armor in a nice company... Man, that's mean But I like it.

doppelganger's occasionally creates a duplicate of the monster being hit
jester's inflicts random 0-500% damage

decay at first, weapon does +200-300% damage, then decays to -100% and breaks
devastation occasionally inflicts triple damage
jester casts random spells
mana mo' mana
peril x2 damage to monsters, and x1 damage to you

I just got the most evil idea. Add a new modifier to Itemstatcost the works like lifeleech, but it regenerates the target's health instead of yours! That would be so evil... I love it!

I don't think so... If you think a little bit, you'll notice that it's the same as reduced damage. You hit with the weapon, dealing 200 damage. And with your affix the target regenerates 50 life. I like the idea that if theres a negative stat, there should also be a positive stat to make the user want to use it, like for that -poison one: There should be like a +1% to mf, or +2 min dmg or something. Just a little something to encourage it in spite of negative resistance.

I was thinking more around 100%-200% leach. And you could make it have the same description as the regular leach! So you could have 2 versions of an uber-1337 weapon: One with "100% life stolen per hit" that leaches for the player, and another (and much more common) one that has "100% life stolen per hit" that gives life to the target!onyx";p="128590" wrote:I don't think so... Man... if a weapon have 100% life stolen per hit that restores enemy hp, it will deal no damage. Example: 200 damage, 100% restored (that makes 200 hp), and no damage at all.

put a modifier that will use the "gethitbymelee" and the number of life gain.
then give it to a monster as equipment, so the monster will be Melee immune but not Physical immune
if I remember well how I described it...
you also can add a +stats mod that will reduce your max resistance by a 3-5 percent, so wearing a lot of +allstats you will get hurt on resistances.
Edit: it was damaged in melee 28 to gain life when you get hit by melee attacks

How about using set items that give set penalties as you use more items in the set? That way the player may have one with positive bonuses, be excited when he finds a second set item, and be devestated when it gives a penalty.
And to be even meaner, you could negate the penalty when an odd amount of set items is used, and keep the penalty when an even amount of set items is used.

Wow, Darque, this is a neat idea!
It's a way to make uncompatible items... Just imagine the choice between two super uber items - which one to choose: the armor or the helm? This one will DEFINATELY be in the mod! And you will definately be in the credits.

not sure about the -str one, never tested with items and level up but a thing I tested was:
a curse throwed by monsters that lowered your damage and STR, the sad thing is that you really have less str, but it wouldn't get updated (items are in red on you) unless you do a switch weapons or teleport, etc... =/
other thing you may find interesting is:
- negative bonus to one stat and multiple bonuses to the other stats or as example:
-3 to agi + 6 to vit (double bonus to a opposite stat)
also this could be done with the skill tree bonuses (-1 to combat skills tree +2 to masteries or war cries for barb as example)
other thing, beware of the negative bonuses to life, if you paired them with +%life you can get a nice error when a monster kill you (your life drops to 1)
I tell you this because this happened to me during the playtest of Xyrax and was not funny but was all my fault for using those cursed affixes.
so if you find one of these unfixable bugs, you should let the players knows about them.
other idea before dissapear in the shadows:
Troll embrace: -50% to fire resistance, -15% to max fire resistance, regen 30, resall 15-30%
basically trying to emulate the Trolls, Trolls are weak to fire and Acid, at least the normal trolls, the Ice trolls are weak to cold and acid.
don't know if you can make this evil affix that makes you spend money when you hit a monster (or give a % chance to cast mammonite on succesful hit)
mammonite: 125% ed damage uninterruptable spends 1000 gold pieces hit
