Install Question

I'm back after 10 years, and want to take another go at D2/LOD.

I'd like to play the Ancestral Recall mod by Teknokyo, which I was playing years ago.

If I rember correctly, I had to copy one file into the D2 main directory, and that file's name was Patch_D2.mpq. However, I can't rember if that was correct or not. Did I have to remove one or more files from the directory when I do that?

I tried it yesterday (after installing D2/LOD again), but the game froze when I clicked on the character choice button.

Looking around, I noticed that the AR file was v1.10; but my game just installed was v1.07. Is
that the problem. If yes, how do I update D2/LoD to v1.10?

I had a few other questions: I have two other files in my old directory and I don't know what they are for:
1. D2XP_IX86_1xx_112a.mpq
2. RestoreD2gfxdll.exe

I'm running the game in W10 at 600 X 800.

I recommend installing D2SE and using the D2SE plugin for Ancestral Recall. D2SE lets you swap between versions 1.07 to 1.13 and most mods that run on those versions, without having to move files around constantly. It makes modding much more convenient.

I used to play that mod a lot as well many years ago and this how I installed it back then.
You can still download it from https://www.moddb.com/mods/ancestral-re ... ecall-v110 which is the 1.10 version. Just install a clean copy of Diablo 2 - LoD, update it to 1.10 by downloading the patch here: http://www.arimyth.com/hell.htm under INSTALLATION and then 'http://files.arimyth.com/HU/LODPatch_110.exe'.
Then you have to add a new folder called 'AR' in your main Diablo folder and copy/paste the files (AR.bat and Patch_D2.MPQ) from the AR-mod to that new folder and launch the .bat file to play.
Note that you can only play this mod with 1.10 as your game will crash when entering Act V when playing with version 1.11+.

Or you can use Cypress' way to install it, but I'm not familiar with D2SE.
The choice is yours.
