Need some advice

Post by servo » Mon Mar 21, 2005 11:36 pm

I'm new to this so any help would be appeciated. I would like to Mod LOD with just these changes. The extra chest and character stash, The extra hireling equipment slots, The stats/spells point reallocation. Can this be done?
Thanks Rick

ok now that we're here, download and install PlugY and D2mod. there's a good sticky here that goes about how to install them.

PlugY - has the unlimited stash and stat/skill point reallocation
D2Mod - it's the base for MercMod which has the extra hireling equipment slots.

As for the increased character equipment, you'll need to have another plugin which should be found in the plugin section of the file center.

I must be doing something wrong. I installed the d2mod, Merc and the plugy and the only thing that works is the extra chest stash, the spell point reallocation, and the extra stat sheets. I thought I did every thing right and I even read your post on the subject but got a little lost. How should the desktop short cut read "C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Game.exe" -testmod -plugy -direct -txt, I have tried many different ways. I inserted the plugy D2gfx.dll into the d2mod but no change at this point I'm stuck. Could you show me where the plugy install instructions are. I did click on the plugy_Install and the D2ModSetup.

Do things 1 step at a time.

1) follow D2mod install. You'll see a folder created under your D2Folder call MyMod.

2) Make a shortcut to run D2 in that folder. Run D2 and you'll see D2Mod System 1.02 on the game select screen.

D2Mod is working.

3) follow the MercMod install. Add -direct -txt to your shortcut. Run D2 again and check the merc.

Merc Mod is working

4) Extract PlugY into the D2 folder.*** Do NOT run the install. ***

5) Copy plugY.ini into the MyMod folder.

6) Add the line PlugY = PlugY.dll into MyMod\d2mod.ini

7) Run D2 and verify Stash is working.

Your Done ;-)

I reinstalled LOD and I created a testmod folder. I installed D2mod and put the files in the correct place and ran the D2setup it shows that it's loaded when I start the game. I installed the Merc mod but it's not working this is what my short cut looks like "E:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" How should it look, like this? E:\Programs Files\Diablo II\testmod\DiabloII.exe. (or) E:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -testmod

no, you must change the "start in" field of the shortcut and add "-direct -txt" instead of "-testmod"

It keeps telling me it's not a valid path. Here's what it looks like:

Target: "E:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe"

Start in: "E:\Program Files\Diablo II" -direct -txt

I'm lost????

It's :

Target: "E:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt

Start in: "E:\Program Files\Diablo II\testmod"

I thought the merc mod gave the hireling extra equipment slots. I started the game and she hasn't changed. Do I need to start a new game until I get a new hireling to see the affect or is there something else I need to do.

OK I got it to work I think, this part is a little fuzzy.

Copy file "npcinv.dc6" into Folder "data\globa\ui\panel\" of your D2Mod Mod folder ( I did this and I take it as D2mod is now my testmod folder )

Replace the 2 Hireling-Lines in your inventory.txt with those from the inventory.txt within this plugin ( Where is the other inventory.txt I only see 1 )

What about the npcinv.pcx where does that go?

The only thing I put in from the MercMod unzipped folder to the testmod folder was the MercMod.dll and now the npcinv.dc6 is in the panel folder.
The hireling now has 3 extra slots.

The pcx file is only for making a modded merc inventory, the game doesn't read .pcx files.

The "other" inventory.txt comes from the patch_d2.mpq.
You need to extract the original into your mod folder "testmod\data\global\excel\" and change those two lines to match.

That's it I give up. I can't open the patch_d2.mpq. I reinstalled the game and now I'm going to try the plugy 5.0. Can you show me where the install instructions are located.

eheh, don't give up so easily ;-)

All you need is WinMPQ.
Click on the File Center -> File Search link on the left there, and search for WinMPQ.

Then get the 1.10 datafile for it here ...

dload.php?action=file&file_id=869

Install WinMPQ. Run it, then goto Options->File lists and choose Add List File and find the one you just downloaded.

Now you can open the MPQ and get whatever you want.

I read the sticky D2mod tutorial and I must say it's incomplete. I never have had so much trouble getting a mod to work in fact I never did. What may seem easy for you to understand is really a confusing set of steps to follow. The lack of accurate information and the missing! steps makes this Mod next to impossible for a first time installer to get it to work properly. Someone should take the time and rethink the tutorial and include some vital info necessary to make this mod work. I did get the plugy5.0 to work, I just wish they could have included the hireling extra equipment mod and the extra stash for your character.

If we had included the mercmod in PlugY it would be just as confusing.

What you dont understand is D2Mod is *NOT* a mod !!!.

It is NOT for users. It is a tool for mod makers.
MercMod is just a plugin to that tool.

The steps to install D2Mod are very simple.
The steps to install MercMod are not. They required some modding knowledge.

There will not be a tutorial for installing various combinations of plugins.

There are 10 - 20 plugins at the moment, with new ones coming all the time.

Each has its own instructions. They should not discribe how to install D2Mod, and D2Mod should not try to describe how to install them.

Extracting files from the mpq, editing txt files, and setting up data folders are basic modding skills you need to have to use the D2Mod system.

I'm sorry we got you started off thinking the mercmod is a user mod.

If you still want to get the mercmod working, we can workout the details in Private Messages.
