OK, seeing we got plenty of questions by people new to the mod at the other forum, I'm going to let us all dynamically write our own FAQ as questions come up.


So, I've stickied this topic and left it up to you. Here's a few to get you started.

Q: My item requires level 105 to use! Isn't it impossable to get that high?

A: New Dawn characters have a maximum level of 250.


Q: The mod crashes my game.

A: If you want any help with errors like this, please post the exact message you get. Sometimes this gives me enough of a clue to know how to fix the bug- otherwise it usually gives me enough of a clue to know what I did wrong.


Q: What're crafter items?

A: These items have purple text, and their only purpose is for use in cube recipies.


Q: Does anyone have a list of all of the cube recipies/runewords?

A: No. At least I hope not. I deliberately gave everyone SOME, so that they got a few they could use already, and then left you to find the rest out on your own.


Q: What are/how do I make Elite Gems?

A: They're a sixth level of gems that are specific to each class. Here are which gems go with which class:
* Amethyst - Assassin (Shadowspike)
* Diamond - Crusader (Horns of Valor)
* Emerald - Ranger (Earthtail Stone)
* Ruby - Beserker (Heartstone)
* Sapphire - Sorceress (Ocean Tear)
* Skull - Theurgist (Elite Skull)
* Topaz - Shaman (Thunderstone
Elite gems are made by combining four perfect gems and a specific crafter item- (it's different for class, but a few of the names provide hints) or two perfect gems and a Stone of Jordan rune. There is also an item, that when cubed with a gem will upgrade it one level. This will upgrade perfect gems to elite gems on it's own.


Q: How are runes different in New Dawn?

A: There are a lot more, and a lot more runewords to go along with them. Over a hundred in all. You can also upgrade ANY rune to the next level in New Dawn. There are two ways. You can either cube any two runes together, or cube a rune and a blank rune. You can also find chipped runes, two of which will make a blank rune.

You may also DOWNGRADE runes using chipped runes, if you need to use a low-level rune for a runeword. Stone of Jordan runes are quite rare, but they upgrade items dramatically when they're added into certain cube recipies.


Q: What are these funny scrolls I keep finding?

A: If you cube them with a crafter item, they will reveal a runeword. There are five base types, each with a different name. Cubing them with different crafter items reveals different runewords. Fifty recipies can be revealed or partially revealed this way.


Q: Do emblems, gemstones, silver bars, or gold bars have ANY point?

A: With two exceptions, they are simply there for you to sell. The HORADRIC EMBLEM is a quest item. Gemstones are used in a recipie to craft a rare jewel.


Q: Why aren't there perfect gems of your other seven new types of gems?

A: Because they're basically a level above normal gems anyway. They each have three properties- most normal gems have only two. They also have higher level requirements.

Q: What are all the Cube Recipies

A: 54x has shown all of the mundane recipies and has given hints for many others on his website,
-if you have an old version of NDX then there will be a cubemain.txt file in the download. But 54x likes people to try to figure them out on thier own.

Q: why is the horadric sword/relic worthless? in the normal game the stave was actually a nice weapon

A) It was SUPPOSED to be better, but the code took away all of it's unique modifiers!!!

So, sometime when I stop being lazy, I'll restore it back to normal, except with decent damage and the new item graphic (it'll call itself staff class, but I don't think anyone really cares)

Q: I know this mod has a max level of 250. My question is that is it actually possible to reach 250? I've played a few mods with that cap and some could barely take it up to 150 if that much. Has anyone ever gotten to at least 200? Cause that would be good enough for me.

Another Q: Will you update NDX or will you just work on NS now? Also, if not then when NS comes out will I have to start over because by then I'll probably have an elite team of characters with tons of items I won't want to lose. Thanks.

Q: Anything I should know about playing New Dawn with friends?


A: It might wise to not play together until both are able to deal with the first monsters without difficulty, in the begining, the kaboom potions will not last as long and you will find yourself in a challenging enviroment, personaly, my friend and I ran out of kabooms just as we ran into a unique group and we were both FAR too low level to deal the baddies, got chased all the way back to town and had to run in and out numerous times before we gained enough strength to take the fight to them in the caves..

I'll mainly be updating NS, as NDX is the first attempt and really is quite disorganised :)

NS is looking good item-wise so far. I haven't unfortunately done much else yet :/

Vision of Onslaught recipe???

Q: I've been trying to get the Vision of Onslaught recipe to work, with no luck. It says it requires a rare helm and 5 different crafter items, and I've been trying a lot of different combos, and nothing seems to work. Please enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong.

BTW, COOL MOD!!! can't wait for North Star.

Q: Did you include the cubemain.txt and runewords.txt in this version? I would really like to know how to get and use the dragon items and which rune words do what.

A (to both):
If you can understand the code, the cubemain.txt and runes.txt files are both in the mpq. (or the zip containing textfiles) To extract them from the mpq you need mpqviewer or a similar program...

A: Yes. I'm simply not in my home or even home country at the moment, so I can't do anything but post on the forums.

A: Probably. Are you talking about runeword scrolls, or townportal scrolls? :)

May U give some idea about how/when emblems should be used? Like nature of quest or act?

Q whenever i want to start the new dawn (1.10) i get this error:

ERROR

unable to execute file:
C:\program files\Diablo II\new dawn x\readme.html

CreateProcess failed; code 193.


why do i get that error? and how do i get it away?..

and why dont healing/mana/revu pots do anything? when i right click i dont get anything, neither do they dissapear.. and some of the skills on the ama dont show the stats they give... i also found an uniqe (an evile source or something, trowing knifes) that did nothing.. is that bugs or? i dont know.. im totaly new
