Heaven Storm Sticky

Post by Sir_General » Mon Jun 16, 2003 10:27 pm

Ah Heaven Storm... finally got it's own sticky thread. And for a good reason, too. I'm ready to start the testing and designing. For everyone who asked to be a tester, thank you. If you were chosen, you'll receive an e-mail (hopefully in the near future).

This thread will be used for news, announcements, bug reports, blah, blah, blah, and all other things Heaven Storm. So then... let the games begin...

Alrighty then... I'm just going to put the download links up here. Anyone can download them, but since most of the mod is multiplayer, you won't be able to log on to the server without an account.

I downloaded the heavenstorm beta, but something went wrong when I was about to get into the main menu. I emailed you my log file.
My first guess would be that I did something wrong while installing it, maybe it would be handy if you put a short piece of info here how to install this thing... :(

All you should have to do is extract the files in the ZIP file to a directory of their own. Make sure you preserve the directory structure in the ZIP file. For example, the "Data\Local\Font\Latin" directory.

I, Too, get an assertion instantly. I'll try to post some actual details.

OS: Win2K

Extracted to C:\program Files\Diablo II\D2 Mods\Heaven Storm, a directory structure I use all the time with my other mods, which use the VBS scripts.

Ran the launcher, Diablo II cinematics came and went, I got the splash screen (right before the main menu), and on the main menu, assertion failure.

Here's the failure, i've never seen it before, or even an assertion in D2CMP.dll before. I suppose that's becuase nobody edits DLL's so heavily like you do. Heck, you're the only mod with edited D2CMP I know of.

Code: Select all

Assertion Failure
Location : C:\Projects\Diablo2\Source\D2CMP\SRC\CelCmp.cpp, line #1087
Expression : pDestSurface
Oh, and here's the stack crawl at the bottom of the crash log. Don't know if it'll be useful, but knowing you, I figured i'd post it.

Code: Select all

I'm not having any of these problems. I'm reaching the title screen, no problems. Try clearing out your /data file in the d2 folder, that might help

Nobody can. It's not implemented yet. :)

I have a few crash logs for this, and I'm looking in to it. Has to do with drawing a DC6 image to the screen.

Update:

This crash appears to be caused by playing in DirectDraw full-screen mode. Windowed mode is ok, and so is Direct3D in both full-screen and windowed mode. I'm not certain at the moment how to fix the crash, but if you are getting it, you can play in windowed mode or switch to a Direct3D video mode to get around it.

I've just downloaded the mod and installed it, but i get an error message when I press "play" in your launcher, claiming that i don't have "d2gfx.dll". I guess this is because I used to play using the modified "d2gfx.dll", so if anyone is so kind to mail me a regular "d2gfx.dll", cause I can't seem to find where I put the backup, it would be most apreciated.

wlffrsether@hotmail.com

EDIT:

Well now I managed to start the mod, and I came as far as the main menu in D2/HS, but no further. The "Enter Freespace" button don't do anything. Also, when I exit the game, numerous error messages pops up about different dll's. It more or less makes me reboot, cause I can't do anything to get rid of the pop ups. The error message is there, but there is no "X" to close them. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work either. The pop ups seem to take control, so I have to reboot.

One more thing i find quite strange is that when i press play in the launcher, it says "Diablo II is already running. Waiting for application to close", and after 3-5 sec D2/HS starts.

OS: WinXP

I guess there is only one thing to do. Re-install. :-|

Clean DLL files (1.09b) <-- clean d2gfx.dll inside ;)
The "Enter Freespace" button don't do anything.

Alkalund: Yes I see that now. My bad.

One more thing. After the intro-movies there is a short glimps, about half a second, of the old vanilla D2 main menu, before it shifts into the D2/HS one. Is is supposed to be this way?

Well, here I am oh so many days later... still no closer to fixing the blasted DirectDraw crash! And with nothing else done on the mod. I'm so happy I could rip my keyboard in two. :x

Alright... but enough about that. I'm moving on. So everyone, you'll either have to run in windowed DirectDraw or switch to Direct3D. I'm going to go as fast as I can to get the next patch out.

"You'll have to run in windowed mode".

How do you do this in your launcher program? I know how to in the VBS scripts, but your launcher doesn't take commands...

Alright, I've got another little test I'd like people to try out. The link is:

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/plan ... test-b.zip

It might take a little bit for it to get around to all of FilePlanet's servers, so if it says not found, try again in an hour or two. I trimmed off all the uncessary items this time (which was a lot), so it's just under 350Kb.

Anyway, this test should play like standard Diablo II. The only difference is you should be able to press "D" and toggle on/off a square towards the top left of the screen.

For those that use this, tell me if you have a crash or if the game seems to run very slow or choppy or the like.

Using 2D gfx.

Windowed and Full Screen run fine and produce the red box on D
Colored box shifts through colors well

Hey everyone, does anyone happen to have the Heaven Storm files?

I think they may have been lost forever, but they were a look into what you could do.

If anyone happens to have those files, do you think you could pack them up for us?

EDIT: Woopsies, didnt notice his second post. My bad
