when i go word by word in readme file (a2p7), several misspellings occured. (e.g. ring -> aing [ln339 col33];skill -> skillp [ln98 col1])

i shall report them all when i have finished the whole translation. ^_^

oh, one confusion has already come up:
in the "Socketing and Unsocketing" part, the unsocketing recipe for runeword item [ln205 col28], it writes "pot", but not "mercury pot" as others. is this a mistake or...

thx~

I found the skillp error and corrected it for a2p8. I could not find the ring misspelling (even with the "find" function). Please quote the whole line.

You're right, it should be "mercury pot"...this has been corrected for a2p8.

This is what comes from using Notepad as an editor, which I do to keep the readme something anybody can view without formatting errors. Also there is nothing like a second pair of eyes. Keep them cards and letters coming!

go on:

"Upgrade and Downgrade Recipes" part, the last set of recipes(ethereal).
so only the "Low Grade Item" need "2 Ceramic Pots", others only need 1?
and there is no ethereal recipes for set items, right?

The Low Grade recipe returns a normal-grade ethereal, so it combines the low grade to normal upgrade with the non-ethereal to ethereal upgrade. So yes, the extra ceramic pot is intentional.

Ethereals are provided for all the grades they appeared in vanilla LoD: normal, superior, magical, rare and unique. A crafted or set ehtereal might work, but I have never tried doing it. Maybe that will work itself into a future patch, but for now that isn't on the near-range radar.

I gathered that. But regardless, going to such a location or using the find function, I could not find any case where there is an "aing" spelling. That is why I asked for the whole text you found it in, not just the word itself.

Patch a2p8 is out! You saw it here first.

greate work! updateted!

just hope nothing much to change in readme :)

it's never the best that you can't find the little bug (maybe you have already corrected it after you released a2p7 =_= it happens...)

thanks for the explanation, i shall add these into the translation...

You should be able to find any changes with a file compare. And there are a few changes, notably the fury gems now being good for crafted items, downgrade recipes for traditional gems and runes, and the replacement dll list for the patch.

I finally found that problem in a2p7 you had noted: 3 unique amulets -> unique aing (never a class ring). The reason I couldn't find it in a2p8 is because I caught it earlier when I moved that recipe to the "re-roll items" section.

That would be an ambitious project! My best advice for doing that would be to take from vanilla D2 the english versions of string, expansionstring and patchstring, and compare those against the ones from the mod. Use afj's Tbl Editor to export each file to a txt file, then compare the txt's together. Any string key with a change (not many in those three files) will require a translation in the Chinese version. If you get that far, please PM me and I'll go over the rest of the details. And should you ever get a full translation back into Chinese tbl files, then I would be happy to insert them into the mod packages. (I have heard there are a few differences in certain files such as d2lang.dll, between American and international versions of the game. So than means somebody would have to test any translation tbls against the mod as released.)

thanks very much indeed...as i m not familiar with mods, Myhrginoc your advices will surely helps me a lot!

for the international version you mentioned, i am not sure. but for the version i played along, i can use "-locale" to switch from "ENGLISH" to "CHINESE" (with "d2loader").

there is also a small tool "xfhsm_language.exe" can do the same thing by rewrite the "D2data.mpq". but i don't know much about how it works actually.

since i am quite at a busy now, i may start the mod-translation project next month.(almost finished the readme :))

Please be careful, we do not permit discussion of things like d2loader here, even in passing.

xfhsm_language.exe probably changes the one-byte value in the "use file" (data\local\use, without extension), which d2lang.dll uses to determine which language path it uses to retrieve localized information. There may be more to it than that, since I don't know how D2 handles non-Latin character sets. But it might be that simple in the international version (which contains English). You can search the forums for "use file" if you are curious.

If you are going to be busy for a month, I may have a few more readme changes to be considered by then.

well, i did some research last night, starting something about how to make mod and how to translate mod.

i've got the chinese version of original tbl/txt where i would like add entries for the mod. but afj's tool cannot recognize chinese! Myhrginoc, do you know any table edting tool that can support unicode/UTF8 for chinese? thanks!

just for asking, when you mentioned "string, expansionstring and patchstring", you mean the tbl files from original Patch_D2.mpq / D2data.mpq / D2exp.mpq, right? and the comp files from tfw-patch.mpq but not from moded Patch_D2.mpq?

i've given a little try. create a new folder:
tfw-patch.mpq/data/local/LNG/CHI
and copy the original chinese tbl/txt (in my version, there is no expansionstring.tbl but couples of txt for chinese) into it.

if this step is correct? then how can i switch language when game launched?
i already tried "-locale", but seems no use at all (not for game.exe? should be). if it works, i thought at least the main menu should display correctly.

another try: if i swith the original game to chinese version (using languae tool not swich command), then i create a shortcut for game.exe using "-mod tfw" to launch the game, i will get a somehow a chinese version of tfw, with lots of Iths, without plugy, etc.

sorry for that.....:( i know that, but just got a little agog there. i apologize for the carelessness.

yeah, i've also noticed the "use" thing after many tests.

it's absolutely ok for you to go on with editing the readme file. it just a practice to let me get familiar how to translate the terms in tfw. :)

well, thanks to flameboy.cn's post, i got the way of converting chinese tbl <-> txt.

i found the post via searching "use file". however i still can't find any thing useful for the "use" stuff...nothing important after all.

All about the use file
do you know any table edting tool that can support unicode/UTF8 for chinese?
unfortunately I do not. :(
just for asking, when you mentioned "string, expansionstring and patchstring", you mean the tbl files from original Patch_D2.mpq / D2data.mpq / D2exp.mpq, right? and the comp files from tfw-patch.mpq but not from moded Patch_D2.mpq?
all three files are in twf-patch.mpq. They have all been updated at least once during the eight patches.
another try: if i swith the original game to chinese version (using languae tool not swich command), then i create a shortcut for game.exe using "-mod tfw" to launch the game, i will get a somehow a chinese version of tfw, with lots of Iths, without plugy, etc.
there is another file which we should talk about in PMs. 8-O

Many would be considered "proper names" and therefore don't translate. Some mythical topics might not have Chinese analogs.

What's the problem?

Is the game still using the old strings or do you get a crash?

Are you getting all Chinese strings except for the TFW strings in the separate file? If so, that may be a limitation of the way D2 handles non-Latin alphabets. Please see the PM I sent you...
