So... can this be done?

Post by Glory » Mon Aug 19, 2002 1:42 pm

Well, I had a though (shock horror) a short while ago and I was just wondering if and how it could be done. I had a maiden's spear which I wanted to use on my javasorc. sadly, it was zon's only. I was wondering if it was possible to make a mod which would allow me to remove the "zon's only" from the weapon.

I know how to make an item class specific but not how to remove it, nor which programme to use. If you can help I will be in your debt. :)

this concept is easy to fix .
goto itemtypes.txt and goto the class column (near the end)
and remove the ama, nec, bar, pal, ass, dru from the entire column
and all weapons can be used by all characters, BUT!

goto weapons/armor.txt and change your altgfx cols to a spear that all classes have like the jav altgfx.
the necro head change too buckler
bar helm change to skull helm
pal shields change to kites
assassing claws change to daggers
and druids helms change to caps
(of couse these are my suggestions but you cna change it to anything :) )
What this ???

The whole point of NNy's post is that there would be no animation for the other chrarcters with that item made; you'd have to make all new character animations for that weapon/item. ... and you probably don't want to do that.

i was thinking if you extract the dcc's and the cofs for the barb/druid helms
and add them to all the characters directories and change the prefix (AM , BA, etc etc) you can add the helms.

Now for the weapons you'd get a messed up looking character ;)
a assassin arm on the barbarian @_@

the shield i think might work as well as the helms :)

Hmm. I was playing SiC the other day, and I recall that when equipping my Druid with an Arctic Rod, which looks like an Orb in-game, it actually showed an ORB in his hands, which is supposed to be a sorceress-only weapon. I don't believe Jbouley edited those animations...

I don't have my .txt file handy just now...but if I recall, I set those items to use one of the wand animations...not orb animations. So, likely the alternateGfx code I used was for the normal wand. I don't play necros much, so I'm not sure how closely the wand and orb resemble each other.

It's definitely an orb - it's got a blue sphere on it...

Just checked, and my alternateGfx column definitely says: wnd

So, I'm not sure why it's showing up like an orb on your computer. Are you sure it's not showing up with a blue globe because it's got some magical affix that applies blue coloring, like some cold-oriented prefix or suffix, maybe? Again, I don't use wands much myself, so my field of reference is pretty slim.

All I can say is, I didn't use the orb's alternateGfx code, so no one should look to me as an example of someone who found a way around class-specific item animations not working with other classes. ;)

Actually, the necro´s normal wand ( and it´s exceptional and elite version of course) look pretty similar to the sorceress orbs, they also have a small, blueish sphere at the top.
That´s most likely why you got confused about it :)

I suggest reading the idiot's guide to modmaking located in our tutorials section, as well as downloading 'better' tools(like MPQView, MPQ2k, etc).

I also equipped every type of Necromancer Wand I could find in the shops...and those look different. It is exactly the orb the Sorceress uses. :) he even holds it at halfway along the length of the handle, while he holds the Wands at the end of the stick.

I'll send you a screenshot, Bouley.

*EDIT* Ugh, never minds. I finally took a Sorceress and equipped her with a Wand and all of the Orbs, and indeed the first Necromancer Wand looks like an orb but isn't. That's what you get for not playing Necro much. :|
