A Balancing Act

Post by Trevor » Sat Jul 21, 2007 4:51 am

I was wondering what suggestions exist for balancing massive AoE skills againts single target skills. I really dont see raising monster life as the most effective way to achieve any balance because the melee char will just take forever holding down the mouse button slugging through a ton of monsters. I figured the only way to achieve any balance would be to either reduce monster density or raise elemental resistances. I was thinking of latter. My question, what is a reasonable resistance? I was thinking of 30% in NM across the board and 55% across the board in Hell.

What about lowering AoE skill damage and raising single target skill damage...?

you could also give the semi equal damage and give the AoE a cooldown(say like 225 frames which goes down with level) and then having single target spells gain more damage than AoE at high levels

Or cap the # of targets that the AOE deals damage to. Hard to do, but works.
