I believe that I will join in as well, though with the caveat that my attention will primarily reside with the HC Septathlon. This one does look fun, especially with the rotation twist thrown in! As well, it looks like it has good participation for the moment, which moment I hope will last a long, long time to come. :)

Introducing the Seven Deadly Sins:

Pride is the first, the forerunner of the team, and she has let that go to her head. Pride of place is Pride's fall from grace.

Sloth's one goal in life is to get by with as little effort as possible. Always to this end does she develop her various skills. Her Psychic Hammer allows her to strike her foes before they can see her, to push them back so that she does not have to move to avoid them. Her traps are formed with the intention, again, of striking her foes before they can see her. With a flick of her wrist, she lays down a web of death that prevents most of her foes from approaching any further than to fall dead at her feet. She mentally trains her pet blades to protect her in such a manner that she can simply stroll from waypoint to waypoint and cause the death of any monster not caught in her trappings. Finally, she pays for the finest poisons with which to coat her wielded blades in order that she might strike her foes as few times as possible before they relinquish this mortal coil.

Avarice's vice is quite straightforward – he manipulates the dead in order to acquire both the wealth with which they adorned themselves in this life, as well as that which they may encounter in their afterlives.

As for lust, a PG-13 approach was thought best. The Barbarian's bloodlust is well-known throughout the Five Acts, and Lust's own notoriety will do nothing if not enhance the mythos surrounding his race.

Wrath has joined forces with this group as an example in counterpoint. He chooses to bring the Wrath of God into the mix, in the hope of turning his brethren from their sinful vices to something more pure and worthy of fighting against the forces of Hell itself. Wish him luck, as he will surely need it!

Gluttony's vice has nothing to do with things comestible, but rather with violence. In stark contrast to her brother Lust, who is driven by an insane thirst for blood, or her brother-in-arms Wrath, who kills only the spawn of Evil, and only for the cause of Good, Gluttony kills for the sheer pleasure of killing itself. She roasts, she freezes, she snaps, crackles, and pops for the simple, yet unslakeable enjoyment of seeing living matter burn, freeze and course with electricity. She would no more want to stop killing things than she would want to stop breathing, and she is gloriously ecstatic that there is a war against demon-kind ongoing in her realm of existence, for it offers yet another excuse (of which she has an endless list) to cause death in any manner that she can invent.

Finally there is Envy, whose vice is even more simplistic than Avarice's. He has to watch as every single one of his comrades takes a turn at gaining wealth, fame, and glory before he gets a chance to do so, and that alone would be enough to make him envious. But wait, there's more! He envies Pride's first place and the opportunities that it affords her. He envies Sloth's lack of effort to accomplish much with little, as Envy himself will have to work six times harder to make a name for himself. He envies Avarice's ability to pull wealth from the Underworld, from beyond the grave itself. He perceives that Avarice will thereby gain his wealth, and therefore his fame and glory, that much sooner than Envy will be able to do so. Envy envies Lust's pre-formed notoriety and respect through his people. He envies Wrath's link to the Divine, again providing a recognition that Envy will have to work hard to attain. Lastly, he envies Gluttony's many ways to bring pain and death to her foes, as well as her all-consuming Appetite for Destruction. If only he had access to that single-mindedness, his own fame would be clenched before he knew it!

Good luck to my fellow Tournamenteers. May your deaths be sparse, your coffers full, and your adventures worthy of the Songs of Bards!

So... Clytemnestra was raiding Tristram, she had knocked down half of the rooms and entered the main dining hall. Set up in ambush were 10 skeleton archers who all shot at the same time, she stood no chance. At level 34, she suffered her first defeat. Her legacy survives her, having collected over 160K gold, a couple of uniques, and death's belt.

It should be noted that she conquered up to the Dark Wood waypoint before such tragedy struck.

EDIT

Rasputin's try for kleos was short lived. He had a good run up until he decided it was a good idea to fight a lightning enchanted unique skeleton. Whoops.

Xerxes, King of the Persians has his go next. Barbarian is actually an onamonapia, because when the Greeks heard the Persians talking, all they heard was "bar bar bar..." Hence barbarians, or non-Greeks. I've got a good unique axe lined up for him that Clytemnestra, assassinator of her husband-Menelaus(Think Battle of Troy)-found for him.

Pride started out in a fairly average manner. She cubed up her scrolls and purchased a single socket Spiked Club, two socket belt and boots, a three socket small shield, a hard leather armor, and no cap or gloves. She could not roll up two sockets in either of those after half a dozen tries, and the defense on them is too low to waste even a single coin on something without sockets.

Progress was painfully slow, as usual, but not otherwise fairly ordinary. At level four she found a nice surprise! It turned out to be a Biggins Bonnet, obviously – a most welcome addition to any low-level untwinked character. She put a sapphire chip into her club at level 4, and when it finally broke, she opted to buy a Hunter's Bow rather than repair the club, which she (stupidly) sold to Charsi. As soon as she found them, she put two Tir runes into her belt and two more into her boots to make Booster runewords for a sorely needed life boost.

At level 7 she was able to finally clear out one version of Blood Moor and edge her way into Cold Plains to have a look-see. The bow did almost no damage at all, wasting literally hundreds and hundreds of arrows on just a handful of monsters. She went back to town, bit the inside of her cheek in frustration at her own waste of valuable resources, and bought another Spiked Club, this time with two sockets. She used it to whack most monsters, saving the bow for hard-hitters that she had to kite. A little while after this dual-weapon setup was accomplished, she happened upon a gem shrine, made a flawed ruby, and stuck it into her club for a little more damage.

Seeing as how it was taking so excruciatingly long to work her way through hundreds of monsters for just a few meager experience points at p1, she resorted to running through Blood Moor seeking Experience Shrines. If there were none, she hit town and restarted, rinse and repeat until she found one. If she was going to spend that much time killing things, it may as well be worth the effort!

At level 8 she used her bow to make a Patiently runeword. The Knockback was tremendously useful. At level 15 she made Mist gloves, quintupling her damage! That was quite an upgrade. Unfortunately her life did not increase, and she has yet to find any minions behind which to hide, so she could not increase the players settings with any degree of confidence. She cleared out Cold Plains again (much, much faster this time), and then worked her way down one side of the Burial Grounds. The Pizza Heads and Rock Golems have so many hitpoints that she did not dare face Blood Raven quite yet. Instead, she went back and did the Den of Evil quest and then called it a day.

Skill-wise, the first point that she placed was into Fire Arrow at level 15, but then she promptly forgot about it. No great loss, however, as it only adds something like 2-8 fire damage at level one. Hopefully she will be able to make use of Magic Arrow at level 20 and save some money and inventory space by not having to buy so many arrows. Buying sheaf upon sheaf of arrows and repairing her club are some serious gold sinks.

As for stats, she has placed all of them into dexterity so far. This is a controversial topic (at least it is controversial among the various voices in my head...) because even ten points into vitality would, with her current life, be a fairly substantial 15% increase in her life. On the other hand, the points that she has put into dexterity have nearly doubled her physical damage, and that is a far cry beyond “fairly substantial.” I don't doubt that she will survive and eventually claw her way out of Act I either way, but... the real question is, “Which method is more efficient?” Hard to say without playing it both ways.

Anyway, that's the story of Pride's first 19 levels. I hope you all are having at least as much fun as I am, and good luck in your adventures!

Nice start there Clersius and congratulations on the "Biggins Bonnet". That is indeed a great find for low-level untwinked.

As for Gluttony;
she snaps, crackles, and pops
...Turning the demons into breakfast cereal is a novel approach to slaying one's enemies is it not :?:

Looks like Pride and Athena are following a similar approach in terms of skills and items....

Athena (Amazon)

Blood Moor run 5: Athena got her 2nd Elixir from a unique Fallen. Played at Players 2 and got an XP Shrine about 1/3 of the way through but still only gained 1.5 levels. Should hit level 15 next run and then it will be time for Fire Arrow and "Mist" gloves.

Blood Moor run 6: Still at Players 2 for safety and got to Level 15 about half way through this new map. Went back to town and made a pair of Mist Gloves and slapped a point into Fire Arrow which is now her primary killer. Also had this cube scroll which gave me this charm which will be used to make a Gigantor or Moby Dick later when she is high enough and has the runes. I also made Athena a Patience Bow. I may up the players setting again for the next run.

Blood Moor run 7: Got to level 17 during this run playing at Players 4 and with an XP Shrine towards the end and made another Booster runeword this time in a Quad charm. I am aiming to get to level 20+ before attempting the Den of Evil and even then, it will be done at Players 1.

Wow, drawing the big boys to the tournament :)

Things just keep on rolling in Fiorna's favor. Cleared the DOE at level 22 with her cold merc. Killed Bish and he dropped my 3rd elixer which I then used to make my first healer CHOM. Ground my way through the Burial Grounds and got a Dog Pound uncommon scroll off a mush head. BloodRaven then dropped another elixer which will go towards my next CHOM.

I then restarted the game and cleared both the Bloodmoore and Cold plains at p/32 for some great stash-filling drops (gems, jewelry, cards, scrolls) with the help of 3 spirit wolves and ended at level 30.

Oh man... Rahhja with the ChoM and the minions!!! You are going to rocket ahead of us, my friend. Hah, what am I saying? You already have, and it will only get worse! Sick 'em, Al, run him down, catch him up! Congratulations on a majorly nice find in that ring, Rahhja. :)

Al, you can nick anything you like from me, with my blessing. :D And yes, I try to toss the vernacular of our time in every chance I get. Thanks for catching Gluttony's contribution!

You are both finding waaaaay too many Elixirs for my comfort, so belay that nonsense, eh?

Everyone is doing so well - keep up the great work, one and all!!

Good Job everyone! This tournament is doing really well.

Xerxes has been using his Axe of Fechmar to hew down all enemies he comes into contact with. He has cleared the blood moore 3 times now, but still finds the Cold Plains to be slightly beyond his skill.

Through great effort-and being a card shark-he was able to combine 4 2 of heart's and 3 2 of spade's to create the Amulet of remedy, which has certainly remedied his need of more Life (for the moment).

The going is still kind of slow with Xerxes, but he shall continue his quest for dominance!

Nice amulet, Sokol! And that axe... *drool* He is about ready to go up against the Greeks, is he not? Payback for all those racial slurs, and whatnot.

Thanks, Clersius! Playing on higher player numbers really ramps up the drop rates. I am still waiting to get my second elixir, though.

Xerxes would like nothing more than to get back at those meddling Greeks! He has wanted this ever since the Athenians egged on rebellion in the Persian's new territory. They are always throwing wrenches in his(and his father's) plans for World domination and such... Artemisia already failed in her simple task to show Persian dominance. That is why he wields an axe. It is him vs. the world, and all the demons of the realm are Greek!

Pride the Amazon
Continuing on, Pride found her first Elixir at level 21, at long last! At level 24, she made a Stealth runeword in a Tall Charm, a Trinket runeword in a Quad Charm, and another Trinket runeword in another Quad Charm. At this point she upped her setting to p8 and reverted to full clears of Blood Moor and Den of Evil for gold, scrolls, and any other goodies she might happen upon.

In her early twenties, Pride was favoured with her first rare charm, which she used until she had amassed enough gold, gems, and jewels to buy two more Elixirs and make herself a Healer Minor ChoM at level 28.

She continued on, dutifully running and re-running the early areas at p8 to collect experience and more gold, ever more gold. Always more gold. MORE GOLD!! At the end of today's session, she had reached level 31 and almost has enough to buy the other two Elixirs necessary to make her next ChoM, whichever it may be.

Happy hunting, everyone!

Great work Clersius. It looks like you are in the best position to catch Rahhja as I haven't played any more so far.

It's my turn to become envious. Although Athena has 2 Elixirs and plenty of "disposable" common scrolls she is nowhere near making a minor CHoM. As always, I find it hardest early on to collect the items required to make a rare jewel and a rare charm. This time around I am also finding chipped gem drops to be sparser than usual, making the production of standard gems harder than it should be
I try to toss the vernacular of our time in every chance I get.
Guess what I caught Athena doing this morning.....Early morning motivation.

We all have our work cut out catching sokol815 and Rahhja and, I suspect now, even Clersius given the amount he plays and how well he knows the mod.

I may have to devote more time to this than I was originally going to do ;)

Blood Moor run 8: At Players 4 and no XP shrine, Athena got to level 19. A unique Quill Rat dropped this belt and as you all know it was Death's Guard which will go to another member of the team, probably my Necromancer. No table update just yet as I'll be playing a lot more today.

This may or may not be significant (sit on the fence why don't you Al :P) but my observation so far is, the players with no deaths to date all play in the Hardcore tournament. Maybe it's a different style of play where we are all far more cautious and walk rather than run (you can still outpace any demon by walking), especially in tricky situations, which means you have defence (zero when running) and I guess players used to HC all "over-level" for the particular area they are playing. Point in case being sokol815 doing the Dark Wood (Underground Passage is before this and a huge risk) in the mid-30's. I won't be going anywhere near the Underground Passage until I am at least level 40, have Multishot, a CHoM or 3 and a lot more life (a poster and CtC rings would be a welcome addition also).
------------------------

Athena (Amazon)

Blood Moor run 9: Got an XP Shrine this time and made it to level 20. No drops of note and the only other significant event was (well to me anyway :P) I finally made a rare jewel. Still way off getting 3 standard gems and a rare charm to make my first CHoM.

Blood Moor run 10: Got to level 21 during this clear then decided to do the....

Den of Evil run 1: albeit at Players 1. After killing the first few monsters I made Athena a Doh helmet and a Trinket Hex Charm. The only danger in here were Tombrats and Ogres but as Athena could Knock them back, Blind them and Amp them, she was never in any serious danger. Cleared the Den and returned to Akara for her reward. Higher players settings would cause problems so she needs to level, get a ChoM and a few other items before she can attempt higher settings.

Cold Plains & Blood Raven run 1: Did this at just Players 1 and got to level 24. Bishibosh was tough to kill, positioning himself behind a wall of Shamen. Eventually maneouvered him to a spot where I could pound him and not get hit much in return. In the Burial Grounds "Sticky Monsters" (Musheads) were difficult to kill even at P1 and a few potions were glugged but nothing else, including Blood Raven herself posed much of a threat. BR was kind in giving me my 3rd Elixir drop. Also managed to make a rare charm but am still some way short of 3 standard gems. I may just use the gold I have collected to buy the shortfall in chipped gems I require.

Next goal is to level to 30 and get a pair of "Catastrophe/Catastrophic" gloves and maybe a "Toy". That should enable me to up the players setting.

Been lurking here for a bit and started my attempt at the tournament a few days ago.

Eno - Amazon - lvl 8 - First Death - Kobold
Off to a good start, happened to come across an experience shrine and was lucky with charms dropping, 3 in a row all with + poison damage. It was a lot of kitting and shooting until my attack rate was up enough. Pumped all my points into dexterity so far so that I have a better chance at hitting. At this point I am not worried about what can be equipped.
I socketed a saphire in a pair of gloves first thing and then found a socketed bow which I tossed a ruby into.
Kobold must have been charged as it one hit killed me :(

Owt - Assassin - lvl 18 - First Death - Archer
Wonderful start!!
Psychic hammer and a merc really help to clear the level!
Managed to get to level 18 before being killed by an archer in the Stony Field

Eerht - Necromancer - lvl 34 - no deaths yet
It was a challenge to stay alive for the first five levels until I could get my first skeleton. It did not take long though to get up to running the cold plains and den of evil on 127. Necromancer is my favorite class so we will see how long I can keep myself with no deaths.

**Will have to learn how to set up the code box to keep better track, but its off to work I go.

Welcome to the tournament, drconfused. Sounds like you are off to a great start with your necromancer.

So Xerxes got too cocky and was taken out by a group of weak monsters that just surrounded him... not even epic. He reached level 24 after procuring some nice tweaks to his axe and the mist gloves. Perhaps the blasphemous Greek's gods really do exist...

Leonidas the Spartan-Paladin was next. You scoff at him being a Paladin, huh? The Spartans are actually deeply religious, absolutely refusing to go to war during religious festivals. Sure, they may declare war on their slaves the "helots" yearly, but everyone knows helots are not human beings.

Upon hearing of this silly tournament, he decided to show the world what Sparta is really capable of! He took out a 20,000 Gold piece loan from the stash for equipment. The Stash thought that the loan was a good idea, as he is King of the Spartans. He sure proved them wrong: Sparta never surrenders, they just die. At least they usually look good doing it(Battle of Thermopylae anyone AKA 300?). He was even unable to deliver a meaningful death, and died as he was attacking his first quill rat. A skeleton walked up to him and he was gone. The stash has to cover their costs, and so will be exacting a 95% tax on all income of all future Greeks until the debt is paid in full.

Calypso, upon seeing the turmoil these humans were going through decided to show men what the gods can do. Her heart is heavy right now, as Odysseus has just spurned her love! Why do the female gods never get to have any fun? In order to purge her menacing feelings, and just get even with the world, she has taken up the art of fireball-casting and loves the smell of charred flesh in the morning. She is now level 14, and has commandeered every Tir rune known to the Greeks. Little does she know she is actually rampaging through some other god's evil minions. She probably won't notice, though... blind anger seems to make it difficult to see what is real. She is working on her 6th Blood Moore run and hopes to finally graduate to the Cold Plains, but probably not very soon. The Search is on for either 2 elixirs, or 150,000 gold pieces, as she would be able to complete a CHoM.

Clytemnestra Assassin 34 1
Rasputin Necromancer 5 1
Xerxes Barbarian 24 1
Leonidas Paladin 1 1
Calypso Sorceress 14 0

So... I know I said I probably won't have much time, but its funny how you seem to not want to write any papers or do that extra reading for your classes when the prospect of just killing a few more demons is on the table. It has been a few months for me since I played Zy-El and since installing it, I have never gone back to vanilla. (like nearly 2 years ago)

Some really good stuff here folks. I've played a bit today, and Teyla the assassin is up to level 8 so far, tying her with RononDex the barbarian.

I'll throw my hat in the ring, although I don't expect to be anywhere close to first I though it would be a great experience to get me started in the zyel mod.

Quick question how do you display your character list in those boxs?

Athena: The pagan goddess of war

I've decided to start her off as a spearzon until I hit level 40, lets hope this works out well its the first time I've tried using spears.

Her first time out was pretty amazing, managed to get her up to level 3 fighting some quill rats. Had a few dangerous encounters with some skeletons but she was able to out run them with quite some ease. Also found a topaz and a regenerate life + 2 amulet.

Athena: The pagan goddess

scratch what I said earlier she is going to start off as a bow zon, cant seem to hit anything without taking major damage (main reason I'm switching to a bow)

Finally managed to hit level 8 and buy Athena's first servant. Quickly after I got a Elixir from a kind unique zombie. Calling it a night for now, sadly Athena is still too weak to fight skeletons as is.

Cleared the Underground Passage with a few good drops; scrolls of Cherry Pit, Squash Sprout, and Puppy Drool; 2x rare rings (which will come in handy very soon,) Axe of Fechmar (unique axe), and Rixots Keen (unique sword).

I made my second CHOM (master) and a Pride Runeword just before clearing Tristram.

I'm not using multishot a whole lot yet because I run out on mana very quickly. I'll stick with magic arrow for the time being.

Edit: made this (http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/t46 ... naammy.jpg) from 7x2 Talons before heading out again.

Calypso reached level 18, then made a witch orb and promptly died in the den of evil by a lucky blow from an ogre demon.

I now introduce Kalchas, the Prophet-Druid. His experience at the Battle of Troy made him jealous of all those who gained fame and fortune. He now seeks his own fame and fortune at the hands of the demons flooding the lands. He may be old and crippled, but he has fate on his side.
