d2:elements beta release / bug thread

the time has come.....

the beta is ready and uploaded. i will PM the location to all the ones that need it, since this is no public beta.
its 4 AM here so dont complain about the poor readme.

please post all comments and bug reports here.

EDIT: sth was really screwed, but fixed now (skill descriptions). so re-dowload if you already did.


NOTE:
the asassin isnt implemented (she has classic skills which is overpowered)

some skills arent finished yet, namely:
-lightning strike (amazon)
-fire chaos (replacement for blaze, sorceress)
-holy bolt (paladin)
-fist of the heavens (paladin)


just dont use those skills as it has no betatesting use.

some skills might still get replaced sometime though.

going well char, but one thing has just occured that I have neither experience nor heard of happening in any occurance of diablo 2.

When I was fighting Blood Raven, she summoned many, and i mean many zombies and skellies, so I ended up getting trapped in a corner until I killed them all. Then when I was chasing her around, it looked like she would try to summon but couldnt, apparently she "exhausted" her summons. if this isnt a bug, lemme know and ill strikethough this.

Link and I discussed the Blood Raven bit earlier in IRC, and I've been mulling on it... Not being at all familiar with the software details, I don't know if I'm anywhere near the mark with this... Anyway, this is what I came up with and it makes some sense...

Is it possible that Blood Raven is only able to summon undead from a given X-Y coordinate on the map once??? Link said the battle was quite long, and he killed a legion of her undead before she was unable to summon anything else... Once all the coordinates in the graveyard are used her minions don't answer her call, even though she tries to summon them...

If anyone more familiar with Blood Raven's AI and/or abilities can confirm or deny this, please throw in your :2c: ...

i have no idea, but i dont think its a bug of my mod cause i didnt mod bloodraven very much.

it might be that she has a limited amount of summons, it might also be that she tried to summon somewhere where its not possible (AI problem). no idea, but if i get time i will look at it. not too important though, is it ;)?

Some small questions:
Why do all squill rats drop the cube ?
What happend to the cube recipte 3 gems -> 1 higher gem ?

Balancing: You can gamble a dagger or a dirk at the beginning of the game for few gold and sell it for much (because of the + skills)
So you can make money with gambling !

because i got a cube that way sometime and didnt put the normal drop back. gonna fix it.

it's not there anymore. furthermore, i am going to remove the starter cube anyways.... later.
all cube recipes have been disabled for now, gonna rebuild cubemain.txt, just didnt have time yet.


gonna solve the gambling thingie somehow.

Also, it seemed to think there was a problem in with missiles, and treasure classes with no chance to drop. If you want that part of the error log I'll post it for you :)

edit: all classes crash for me!! argh. I had to download a winrar program to open the file, do you think it could have corrupted it? :cry: I wanna play! lol

i tried to reproduce your bug, but failed. this might be because i tried with beta 1.01, which is uploaded now. dowload that beta, try again and tell me if it still causes problems.

re-installing D2 (which I wanted to do anyways) and your updated beta, whichever one worked, it worked :D. 'Course, now I have to go to a wedding, but I'll bbl... thanks for uploading the fix! Looks great so far, hehe

EDIT 1: I love kiling quill rats to hear the sound of the horadric cube dropping! I never hear that sound much unless I play ES or TFW ('course I'll enjoy it while it happens, pretty sure it's not a feature :roll: ). The biggest problem I've come across so far is this: my bow, which I've socketed with 2 chipped sapphires, will NOT kill cold immunes. It is 1-8 physical damage, with 2-6 cold damage added by the sockets. I cannot hurt cold immunes with it, which could present a problem when I reach higher levels of difficulty, and my bow has an element on it that a monster is immune to. I'm hoping that this isn't a planned feature, or playing an Amazon just got way harder. I did try for quite a while, thinking I just got unlucky and kept doing 1 point of physical damage with each hit, but after about 20 shots they were still alive.

And may I say, NICE ONE on the 3/8 damage on multishot. Good thing I was going Magezon in the first place ;)

EDIT 2: apparently that works from both sides--immune to physical isn't effected at all from my 2-6 cold damage on my bow...

EDIT 3: the warp to the Forgotten Tower doesn't work. I also got 4 warnings upon walking into the Black Marsh. I won't post them since they've been mentioned before.

Balance issues:

Molten Boulder is completly overpowered. Fissure is a joke in comparison.
Some facts:
- Damage already high at level 1
- Spellpower boosts damage even more
- Fire, Physical and Average Fire Damage!
- Range is like 3/4 a screen
- Knockback
- No Casting Delay
- Mana Cost: Low - Moderate


The elemenatal fire weapons has +mana per kill (maybe others aswell). Well, I have one with +13, and it's one-handed.
The problem I see here is that all kills are counted, even the ones by spells. This is an enormous advantage for casters, atleast early on. I don't have to use the weapon at all and still get the bonus.



Bugs:

This happened in 'Black Marsh' near the WP and the edge of the map, I got both warnings in a row. I could continue the game though, as they were only warnings.

for the warnings, i think i know the reason, the reason is the forgotten tower where i used Red Havoc's plugin. gonna fix that in the next version.

as for the molten boulder, i have to say that i never played a molten boulder druid, and i didnt thing it was that much of an area-affect skill. i am going to reduce the damage. perhaps i can also fix the display bug, we'll see.
or is it better to put the cast delay back? perhaps a cast delay of half a second or so? so that you cannot make an extreme fastcast build..... and increase the mana cost?

as for the weapons, i see that they are a bit too strong too early, gonna fix that in the next version too. the problem is that i want to have mana / kill on elemental weapons, and you will quite for sure be able to get elemental weapons with up to 25 mana after each kill later in the game (hell difficulty). but i see that the current values are too high :).

Hi again !

There are some big problems with the Barbar. I think the spellpower bonus for all skills with increased attack and damage don't work. I only tested it with leap attack. Leap attack should get increased damage from spellpower, but there is no bonus :( . I have 24 spellpower (10 + 14) and nothing happend. I don't know if the bonus should be visible in the skilltree, but if it should be visible there is no bonus for ww too.

leap attack was an error, the damage bonus was 100% always because there was a small mistake in the formula, error fixed now (now its (40% + 10% * slvl) * spellpowerbonus).

whirlwind works correctly, its just that spellpower increases the attackrating (multiplies it by a certain value). whirlwind has no AR at lvl 1 -> no increase.

i am going to list the spellpower bonus formulas on my website.


EDIT: btw, you will find less setitems later on i think. at least less highlevel setitems.
let me guess... two items from the fool's set and one item from one of the class-specific sets that is (murphy's law) not for your character? :)




EDIT2:
the maximum resist all still seems to be bugged, i dont exactly know why. this will be fixed in the next version, too. i dont think its too important right now.
it MIGHT be that all your resistance-giving items drop in resistance by 60% with the next version and get negative resistance, so dont rely too much on them.....

Ohh Ohhh..

The first act was easy. But know Radament is very taff. He has a special poisen that kill you faster than you can say Ra-da-men-t (buy t you are dead) . Without a high poisenresist and poisen lenght reduced you have no chance to kill without dying. But this isn't the hardest thing. The mages are the hell. I meet a master (extra strong) with same of his friends and my merc was dead before i noticed that they are attacking. My barb has around 200 life and i had big problems with these guys. I wouldn't wondering if other chars (like necro or sorc) will have a real problem.
( all in /players 8)
@Char: I had found St Patrick's Mind, Fool's Gridle and Crimloth's Bottle (nice).
But no uniuqes...

Edit: now level 22 and 6 :!: set items (new: Fool's cap, StPatrick's Girdle and Aramon's Hand)

just wanted to add a few things.
first, this are the BASE values, and an extra strong unique moon lord might deal WAY more damage.
second, the attack ratings have been reduced a lot (divided by about three), and the monster's defense values have also been reduced.

I experienced the same warning that pmpch and link did, but it caused the game to totally freeze on me; had to hit the restart button... Both times it was in Dark Wood, with my spearazon running towards 10 o'clock... First time occured when the cursor touched a skeleton archer who was standing right on top of a torch pole... Second time was cursor touching a big chest... Both occurances produced the exact same warning in the log:

I've seen a few random immunities here and there, and a couple of them have been acting buggy... My spear is socketed with 3x chip ruby, so I have phys and fire with it... Once each for phys immune and fire immune, I was pounding on it with my gemmed spear, and it was totally immune to my weapon... I also ran into a phys immune skeleton in the burial grounds, skipped him while clearing the perimeter, came back to where he was, and he had lost his immunity...

The gfx for the minor cure potion seem wrong to me... The minor spirit potion is this thin little vial while the minor cure is a big round bottle... Move up to light grade for both, and the gfx match aside from the colour difference...

Lightning Strike still has vanilla 1.10 synergies... Guided Arrow is listed as 12 skill points to start instead of 18...

sorry for not posting for a while. i had some reallife stuff to do and to play a bit, plus my mother is going on my nerves.


about the "Couldn't parse treasure class item!" errors: they were because i changed junk drops and wasnt aware that all the bosses could perform junk drops, too, fixed. still five left, they belong to items not yet in and perhaps never in.
about the "Found a treasure class item with 0 chance!" warnings: they are because of the fact i reworked drops, this is okay.

about the tower: i could enter the tower with no problems. gonna see what is wrong there.

the random immunities are bugged. they change if you are away for a long enough time & in a far enough distance. this is because of an error in the 1.10 beta and might get fixed with the final version of 1.10. if not, i have to change some things, i think its possible to make them work.

the gfx of the minor cure potion are an issue that is totally miraculous to me. sometimes they work and sometimes they dont, even on my PC. they show the gfx of the super cure potion sometimes for a reason i dont understand.

lightning strike hasnt been changed yet, i wrote that in the first post i think.

the guided arrow thing wasnt aware to me, gonna fix that.

thanks for all your feedback and error reports. its practically impossible to find all the errors alone.

Ok, I cant make it through the black marsh. I get the tile errors that everyone else has, then get the unhandled exception, if you want the error stream, I can post it. I am running the game on an AMD Athlon 2400+ with 1024Mb DDR ram, so those shouldnt be a problem. OS is WinXP Pro service pack 1.

i am going to adress that in the next beta. if you dont want to wait, you can try to use the original levels.txt file, that might help, and the original lvlwarp.txt file.

i just uploaded a new beta version, 1.02.

look into the readme file to see what bugs have been adressed.

i am not completely sure if the tower bug is gone, i very much hope so, for me, it didnt crash and didnt give warnings either.

your +resist items will be screwed, sorry. i had to do this sooner or later, and i thought it would be better if i did it sooner. if its too bad, i can give you cube recipes to repair your items.

I must say I love the 'cure' and 'spirit' potions. I would never use Rejuvies much in the past because I was afraid I was wasting them if I only needed to replenish one ball quickly.

just a heads up, in v1.02, tower bug is still present....dont always get the exception error though, just cant get into the tower :shrug: trying to play on without the tower, but cant seem to always get through black marsh, that exception is a pain. will try again later and see what happens! :)

this tower error is driving me nuts. i have no idea what it is caused by, i dont get it, even when running without -direct -txt mode and with the modified .mpq file. strange.
gonna upload a version today that doesnt have the modified tower and therefore doesnt crash.

EDIT: re-uploaded, tower removed.
also adressed sth that caused CE not damage fire immunes or physical immunes although it deals half fire half physical damage (occured on random immunes).
